Lightroom/Camera Raw: Recognizes wrong lens (Canon 5D MK II equipped with a Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM lens)

Hi,

I just shot a couple of photos using a Canon 5D MK II equipped with a Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM lens. However, LR (2015.10.1) recognized a Canon 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM. I had to set this manually.

Same problem in ACR, of course.

The metadata fields say :

Lens Type : Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
Lens Model : EF85mm f/1.8 USM

Thanks.

Hi,

I am unable to reproduce this with our test images. A couple of things could be contributing to this behavior.

In ACR or Lr, open an image made with the 85mm lens and in the Lens Corrections panel, enable the profile option. Then, use the Setup: menu to "Reset Lens Profile Defaults."

If that fails to resolve the profile mismatch, please post a sample raw file (.CR2) for download (e.g. Dropbox or similar service) and I will investigate whether the camera EXIF metadata is correct.

Regards,

- Chris

Hi Chris,

For me, the "Reset Lens Profile Defaults" menu in LR and ACR is always grayed.

You'll find a sample image here :

Thanks.

Thank you for the sample image. When I load this image in ACR and Lr, it matches the 85mm lens profile as expected.

Are you seeing the mismatch with all images made with the 85mm lens, including images with only default settings?

Are there any xmp files in the LensProfileDefaults folder?

If so, temporarily move them to the Desktop folder and relaunch ACR to confirm the issue is still present.

Thanks,

- Chris

Note : The camera was a 5D, not a 5D MK II. Sorry.

OK. It seems that I have fixed the problem. Something was wrong/corrupted with the lens profile defaults. When I clicked on the (big) Reset button in Development mode, the Setup mode in Lens Corrections automatically switched to Custom and selected the 24-105 lens. No idea why. When I switched to Default mode, then LR detected the correct lens.

I checked in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfileDefaults to see if a lens corrections preset for the 5D was present. This was not the case. So I don't understand why LR applied these custom settings.

I have reset the default development settings for this camera, including the lens correction defaults and saved the new default settings for the 5D. Now, the correct lens is detected.

Thanks anyway.
