FAQ:

What can I expect from this site?

While we'd like to acknowledge and comment on every idea, question or problem that comes in, it's not something that we have the time or man-power to accomplish. We will read every post and use the information and rankings you provide to help inform the future of our products.

This feedback site in not an official support channel. We welcome you to use this site to post questions in search of answers - and hopefully - more often than not, your questions will be answered by either someone from the user community or someone from one of the product teams.

If you require one-on-one assistance or prefer to contact Adobe Customer Care directly, please visit the support contact page.

Will this feedback site replace the current user to user forums?

There are no plans at this time to replace the current user to user forums except for the forums covering Feature Requests. As of May 17th, 2011, the feature request forums on the user to user forums have been archived and a message has been posted directing users to submit their requests here on this feedback site. The main impetus of this site is to allow users to submit ideas and rank them - something our current forums aren't especially tuned to. If you like what you see here and prefer it to the user to user forums, let us know.

Will this feedback site replace feature request and bug reporting form?

Yes. As of May 17th, 2011, all digital imaging products will use this site as the place to submit feature requests and report problems.

The advantage of using the feedback site over the form is that customers will have better insight on what requests have been made and will have the opportunity to help rate and rank those requests for future consideration.

Shouldn't there be an "I don't like" button against each point? You're going to count votes for features, but not for objections.

Hi John. We don't plan to add a Don't Like option at this time. I would, however, encourage users to comment on the merits (Pros or Cons) of proposed ideas. Remember to keep it constructive discourse, naturally.

The better the case that someone makes for or against an idea should ideally affect whether it receives merit or not.

There are quite a few ideas that are already surfacing with "Likes" attributed to them where the comments are very clearly in favor of "Do Not Like". I think we should be able to vote an idea down just so that it is clear where the majority of viewers stand. I don't expect that Adobe staff will end up reading through pages and pages of comments and therefore they could end up working on things that are not strongly supported by the community just because there are a number of Likes applied to the item...

Jeffrey, could Bridge be added as a Product?
Several requests might be relevant.
I really like how the discussions are very engaging!

I hope to get to this today. Most of the Photoshop engineering team was/are in San Jose this week doing product development planning/adjustments. So if you saw a drop-off in participation, that was why. :)

I think it would be helpful if this post could be pinned at the top regardless of the sort order chosen.

Good idea. I will look into whether that's possible.

Jeffrey, I hope this site will become a success. It looks really promising.

Regarding comments on ideas: What do you think about negatively commenting on an idea because one thinks that development time would be better spent otherwise?

I feel that is an unfair way of championing ideas one personally feels are in the critical development path. I suggest that people should "like" the ideas they want to promote and "dislike" ideas that they feel would get in their way. However, features which are completely neutral to anyone not using them shouldn't be voted down on the grounds of "stealing development time", or is is that a valid objection?

I argue that ideas should be judged on their merit and it should then up to the product manager / developers to decide whether the idea is worth spending development time on.

Voting against on the grounds of "stealing development time" is numerically indistinguishable from genuine criticism and could be used to achieve a double promotion of the ideas one believes to be worthy of development.

Finally, if "stealing development time" were a valid point of criticism then I think the "ideas" section could be closed for the time being because surely the development team has enough on their plate already.

I'm trying to clarify which points of criticism should be brought up against an idea and which may not be constructive.

The site is designed for customers to have a hand in "influencing our product development teams with ideas and requests." Ultimately, it's up to each product team to weight the cost/benefits of developing features. I'm cool with users being free to comment on the pros and cons of features as they see fit, as long as they do it in a polite constructive way.

If I tick the check box "Share my email address with Photoshop Family..." with whom am I sharing my email address? I'd be more than happy to share my email address with Adobe staff but would not want my email address to be publicly available to visitors of these pages.

You would be sharing your information only with the "Photoshop Family Team" and the only reason we'd contact you is to get addition information from you regarding an idea, question, or issue. (Sharing bug files, case numbers, system info, or other information that might be easier through direct communication). I've asked that team members ask customers via the forum if it's OK to contact individual users privately prior to contacting them directly.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. BTW, I'm happy to be approached by staff members independently of the choices I made for the contact option.

Thanks Jeffrey - still mulling over how to use this versus the forum.

Anyway, I do think its a good call not to have "negative" votes - too easy to fall into the rut of trying to oppose everything except your personal pet features... I think Adobe is quite capable of discriminating the ideas that will be most important to users... by using their own judgement and such, plus user votes for, and comments: pro & con...

Well said, Rob. I'm also in favour of using a positive voting approach.

Yup. I want this forum to be a positive experience for everyone. So far I'm very encouraged by the constructive tone all around. It's very much appreciated by myself and the team.

Jeffrey - in each section's summary, can the "last reply" text be made clickable and link to the last reply in each topic?

it seems that there are alot of topics already. some good ones are quickly moved to later pages. can we see more topics on a page like it is on the regular adobe forums? plus i havent seen any mention of this site on the mac or feature request forum (unless i missed it) it would be nice to inform people there since this site seems to get more attention lately. i wonder if the voting features would have been able to be added to the regular forum - which i think works well.

Hi Edward. You can drill down into topics a few different ways.

For example topic kind and rating: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

Or by topic and most recent: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

Or by product and rating: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

We're intentionally rolling out the site in steps so we have a chance to try and work out the kinks before exposing it to a huge audience.

The plan is to decommission the current feature request/bug report form along with the Feature Request user to user forum by the end of April.

Around the same time, we're going planning to add a "Feedback" tab to our Facebook product pages.

We'll keep evaluating the benefit and use of the site to see how else we might leverage it.

is there a way to separate discussions on feature requests from questions like where are my marching ants, etc?

Sure. Go to the topics page:

http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

And use the list in the lefthand column to filter the views.

Yes. Click on the products in the lower right column, or click on the > after "Community" in the breadcrumb row at the top of the screen and select Products.

yes i did but i still see some LR/CR topics. Also I find this site cluttered compared to the regular forums. Hopefully you guys can streamline it a bit to make it easier for us to see more topics. Definitely like to see more topics on a page than there is currently.

How will FR's / bug reports for the Lightroom SDK fit into this new scheme?

Adobe Administrator

Hi Rob, you can post your SDK requests here as well. The Lightroom team will see them, as will other users who can rate/rank the requests and/or provide workarounds/solutions.

Will do. However, it might be worth considering a separate product sub-category for Lightroom SDK feedback. No?

I'll ask the Lightroom team and see what they prefer.
