Can you open photos in Photoshop directly? What version of Photoshop are we talking about here? What OS are you running on? Did this work in the past? What's happened since then?
PS CC 2018 using windows 10. No I can not open any photos in PS CC 2018. If I use PS CS6 it will work but LR always chooses the newest version of PS. Not sure when it started possibly with an update. I work primarily in LR.
I have had the same issue recently with a photo I was working on in ON1 as a standalone accessed thru PS CC. When I tried to bring the file back into PS, PS froze and I had to restart the entire computer.
I tried again, but PS froze as soon as I tried to open On1 with it.
Running Win 10 64 plenty of RAM. the BIOS was just updated by Dell today. I wonder if that caused it. No other apps running except Chrome.
A system hang or freeze requiring a computer restart usually means a low level failure such as a driver (bad video card driver, etc), failing hardware (hard disk, video card, etc.) or damaged OS installation.
In this case, I suspect a bad video driver. It's best to go directly to nVidia or AMD and install the latest driver. A mix of cards and drivers can also cause problems. Disabling Use Graphics Processor is a quick test to determine if the card or driver are the the problem

If I use PS CS6 it will work but LR always chooses the newest version of PS.
