Photoshop: What is the difference between Photoshop CS5 and the version of Photoshop that comes with Creative Suite5.5?

If I only use Photoshop, why would I want to upgrade to Creative Suite 5.5?

Photoshop CS5 (Version 12.1 - Which comes as part of Creative Suite 5.5 ) and Photoshop CS5 (Version 12.0.4 - a FREE update for the version of Photoshop which came as a part of Creative Suite 5) are exactly the same in terms of functionality except that 12.1 will support a subscription license and no longer installs Growl (notifications utility).

Both contain the same updates to fix issues, both have the same camera support with Camera Raw 6.x, and both work with the Photoshop Companion Apps.

If you're referring to Photoshop CS5.5 - there is no Photoshop CS5.5 so there's no need to update if you own Photoshop CS5.

If you're referring to Creative Suite 5.5 - it is a paid upgrade (not free) which updates several of the other applications in the Creative Suite. You will need to decide if the benefits from those updates are worth the upgrade price.

CS5 doesn't show up in the extension manager. It says it needs CS5.1. Is there a way to overcome this without upgrading to Creative Suite?

I have just Upgraded to Yosemite and my Photoshop CS5 will not open. I did DL the latest Java SE6. Cannot figure out why? Help?

It did work perfectly with Mavericks. I tried to DL earlier version of Java because some said it worked with the earlier Java rather than the newest version. The error message just says :
To open “Adobe Photoshop CS5” you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime.
Please any advice as I use it in my business. That You! Joey

This is a great conversation that's separate from the main one, so I created a new conversation to continue the discussion.
