Photoshop: Video Problem (flickering, driver bug) Windows 8 & CS6

Selection tools in CS6 64bit cause background to flicker in Windows 8 64bit. The background flickers between transparent and black.

Windows 8 64bit Consumer Release
Photoshop Standard CS6 64bit
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
AMD Radeion 5570

Please see this FAQ as a work around while we work on a permanent fix with AMD. This will allow the GPU features to still work.

Issue

When you run Photoshop CS6 in Windows 8, the image canvas is transparent or flickers.

Solution

Change the GPU Drawing Mode to Basic:

In Photoshop, choose Edit > Preferences > Performance.
Select Advanced Settings.
Choose Basic from the Drawing Mode pop-up menu.
Click OK to close the dialog boxes.

OMG !!!!
exact same here, I tough it was just me..

this is DRIVING ME nuts !!!!

so yeah, this is confirmed..

I am also on Windows 8.

Other:
-> I have a very powerful PC
-> I am running Windows 8 (all updates done)
-> Catalyst Control Center Version 2012.0530.1022.16647
->

Other:
I never had this problem on XP/Vista/7.
This is extremely annoying and makes me want to uninstall photoshop.(which I have)
I also noticed that on Windows 8 , photoshop cs6 is very very laggy/slow/etc.

other:
This is not because of bad install (99% sure). This also happened on the last release of Windows 8 and I also FULLY uninstalled photoshop along with all adobe products (all removed inc appdata, program data, etc) and still the same problem.

This is urgent and needs to be fixed*!

Thanks.

Windows 8 is still in beta testing, and far from final.
In particular, the video card drivers are in a horrible state at the moment.

Windows 8 cannot be supported until it is released.

Chris,

It is not far from final. RTM is expected in August. The issue may be video drivers, though. ATI has drivers for Windows 8, but they are beta as well.

I have installed the RTM version of Windows 8 and I have the same issue here.
I guess it's graphics card driver related.

Yeah, the drivers are, um, still lacking a bit of polish.

Yep, Now have Windows 8 Build 9200 and still the same issue.
And: And the performance of Photoshop seems to be very slow on Windows 8 is well, (lagging, random bugs/errors <- freezing/not doing what its told/etc.
Running Photoshop CS6 on Windows 8 is completely different from Running Photoshop CS6 on Windows 7. I even make partitions to make sure, and its Windows 8 alright (could be related to graphics driver/AMD./etc.
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Tested with and without the AMD drivers. (and used the official ones from AMD for Windows 8 , and tried several times but same problem.

AMD has released a new driver 12.8, but this problem hasn't solved yet. Any advice?

I still have the flickering of black/white/transparent background.
image:
http://cl.ly/image/1X0Q3Z2C452r/Image...

it is also a bit laggy/slow and more bugs than Windows 7 . (and now I have it on my SSD and installed 12 GB ram, so I don't think its because of my hardware).
also to note: After installing the new drivers by AMD (12.8) the performance for photoshop did increase but it was still mildly buggy compared to windows 7 .

ok, I kinda fixed the flickering tranparent background.
http://cl.ly/image/1Q3B3P453Y1A/Image... , I changed it to black BUT it still seems to flicker and bug around.

please fix this, this is major and has made me stop using photoshop. I use to always use photoshop but now I only seem to use it when I "have" to.
please fix this.
Thank You.

this is really annoying and stopped me from purchasing the upgrade.

please let AMD know that this is a problem - they will probably need more info about your system to help track down the cause in their drivers.
(they know about the problem, they just don't know how to reproduce it yet)

I think the problem is AMD and windows 8, I tried to use CS5 but it appeared the same problem. If you guys want to fix the temporary problem while waiting for an update from AMD, you can turn off using Graphics Processor or change the drawing mode to basic, the performance speed is slow but it should be better than seeing the screen flicking...

This is extremely difficult. I can't even use the crop button. the whole screen just blacks out. The stability compared to windows 7 is not comparable. CS6 Ran beautifully on my 7 machine - on windows 8 (same machine) it's like the video card has spastic tarrets.

AMD is aware of the issue, and is working on a fix, but we have no ETA.

it's not a fix, but u can work better, makeing changes from EDIT>Preferences...>Performance... to disable the use graphics procesor or change to basic in advanced settings, i don't know for sure what it changes because it moves the same...:)) with and without hope they will update the drivers quickly i really love how win8 runs faster and smoother...

Same problem:

Photoshop Standard CS6 64bit
Windows 8 Release Preview 64 bits (French)
Intel i7 3770 CPU

I have no graphics card, only the Intel graphics chipset onboard my ASUS P8H77-V.

I have solved the problem for now by using Alexandru Ivanciu's advice : disable the "use graphics processor" setting in Preferences. (Thanks Alexandru!)
