Photoshop: Vector Shapes & path highlight/selection issue

Hi there,

Photoshop CS5

1.Vector shape have color area and vector mask visible - http://screencast.com/t/hVB2H7ceqp
2. Selecting the later do not affect the visibility of the actual shape - http://screencast.com/t/YkmJlsLRNX
3. Selecting the vector mask gives us the visual representation that mask is selected - http://screencast.com/t/Iq4P9Qgp9

Photoshop CS6 beta

1. Vector shape have a single icon - http://screencast.com/t/ptBpMRYup
2. When select the layer the vector mask is automatic selected too - http://screencast.com/t/dm1WjibiTZ
This is frustrating because it is hard to set layer styles properly, the additional "stroke" that comes from the selected layer mask visuals mess the things up.

Please can you find a way to select vector shapes without selecting the actual vector mask too, this was perfectly developed in Photoshop CS5.

Thanks!

Regards,
SK

Hi all,

We made some changes in the 13.0.1 update that will hopefully help with the issues here. First of all, path outlines no longer display when in the Layer Styles dialog. Also, if you have a shape layer active and select a non-vector tool, the path outline will not display.

We are always continuing to refine the behavior of paths and shapes in Photoshop, so thank you for your feedback.

Same issue here. Not understanding the decision here. If there's a way to do it it's completely lost on me.

Another detail about this, is that the single icon does not allow you to copy the vector mask to another layer.

Apparently, if you hold cmd+opt and drag the thumbnail onto another layer, it will do it.

They focused on that content-aware crap and forgot about the important stuff

The solution is to hide in Extras the "Target Path" Shift+Cmd+H (on Mac). We can make noise for a better solution in the Photoshop CS6 Forum:

Hey Ivan,

I found that solution too : http://screencast.com/t/CSKcTX3n, but after you select the actual vector path and points, it turns on automatically, which is frustrating again. Overall no good solution for now!:)

Will post this topic here: http://forums.adobe.com/community/lab...

When I am applying layer styles to shape layers, I do not want to see the shape layer handlers as they hide and distract the fine details that I am applying.
Maybe I just didn't find how to do this yet...? Did not have this problem in CS5, there I would just click on the shape layer mask and the handlers would disappear again.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Photoshop: Allow to hide the Shape Layer Handlers when needed.

Yes, Ivan is just a troll, not a designer.

@Brandon I'm not a troll... We asked Adobe for a solution and they said us to hit enter. In that moment I thought I could get used to working this way; but when you need to move the vector and apply an effect it's impossible. Really frustrating.

Ivan was not trolling, he is correct hitting enter will hide and unhide the control points for your vector layers. This isn't a new feature and or issue either it's been like this a long time. The only annoying part for me that i wish they would change is having a memory of what shapes and points you last had selected. After hiding the control points to see your layer styles or how thing line up when you hit enter again to bring back up the control points nothing is selected anymore and i have to go back in and re-select all my CP's again. It would be more helpful that when i bring the CP's back up to have what i had selected already selected again.

Same issue here, the way CS5 handled vector layers was so much better.

I really hope that this is a bug and that they'll fix it in the final version

Apparently they did this on purpose. We are discussing here as well:

So there's a chance that they might not fix it.

Thanks, Tony

Could you give them a nudge to look a bit harder & quicker Jeffrey? It seems they're going too slow for the rest of us.
