Photoshop: Transform scale - fit to canvas

Very often when I paste content in an image, it's too large for the canvas and I want to scale it down to fit. Sometimes it's huge and I have to shrink it by dragging upper left corner down and to right, then panning the placed image up, and repeating. It'd be great if there was a transform - fit to canvas option that made the dimensions of the layer fit in side the bounds of the canvas.

Hi Mate,

I had the same issue. There is nothing online regarding this issue.

But I found the answer!

CMD + Shift + V (Paste in Place)

then

CMD + Shift + T (Transform to Canvas)

Done.
Hopefully this helps.

paste in place will only paste your clipboard image in the exact center of the document. and Cmd+Shift+T will apply the last transform operation. both don't solve the issue. we need fit to canvas command. 3 commands really: fit to canvas, fit to height, fit to width. pretty please :)

Hi, you can use this link http://www.mixingonbeat.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=8837

and make action for script "fit to canvas", so by use "F5" button for example in action shortcut

you can fit to canvas

Thanks

Thank you Muhamad. very helpful. I have installed it and assigned a shortcut to it so I am all set for "fit to canvas", if I want fit to width, I would press Ctrl+T and hit the lock. if I want fit to height, I'd need to manually type the width number  :) this should of course be a built in feature. of course you can do this natively by dragging each edge one at a time to snap to the document bounds. this should be a built in feature, same as After Effects :

Can anyone tell me how to do this for multiple images in a folder?

Fit to canvas, fit to height, fit to width. I really need that for fast TV graphic photo conversion. It's overdue for years now. I resort to After Effects to do this but that shouldn't be necessary.

Not exactly the same thing, but dragging (instead of pasting) an image into an open PS document places it as  a smart object, sized to the document boundaries. That may need a trip to preferences, as I'm not certain that it's the default option.

Maybe that's close enough for what you're doing?

the issue is that if the it will only snap to height. I wan't the option to fit to width or height. think of an image that's not the same proportions.

I would like to see a Paste - Fit to Canvas shortcut added. Maybe Command-Option-Shift-V (on the Mac). That way you don't have to touch the transform tool. It seems like the kind of feature that would have been implemented years ago.
