Photoshop: The gradient editor not working and when I'm trying to use it the application stops working

Does it freeze and you have to force quit or crash out completely? What OS/version are you running on?

Also, are you running into trouble when you're trying to set a gradient or when trying to apply that gradient to your document?  Does it happen every time?  And, like Jeff asked, when Photoshop stops working, does it lock up or does it become unresponsive?
