Photoshop: Spacebar blocked as a keyboard shortcut (Can't be used with Hand Tool or any other tool)

Since the update 19.1.5 in Photoshop (and also in Illustrator) my shortcut settings have blocked assigning the hand tool to the space bar.

Firstly, I fully understand the default shortcut is H. But for many years I have used my thumb to quickly navigate around artwork by holding down the spacebar. With right hand for mouse/drawing tablet.

When going into Keyboard Shortcuts. You get the error message 'You can only use A-Z for tool shortcuts'. See screen shot attached.

I cannot stress how much this is impacting my ergonomics and productivity. There appears to be no logical reason to block the biggest button on the keyboard from being used.

Note: Interestingly, my colleague is not experiencing this issue.

Please help

Are you referring to using the space bar to switch to the pan tool to move around the view? Spacebar is assigned to the Hand tool by default and works just fine here - and haven't seen other reports that haven't been system specific. Have you tried a different keyboard? Resetting your prefs? Starting in safe mode?

Holding the spacebar still toggles to the Hand tool from the current tool.  If that behavior went away, it's not something that changed on the Photoshop side.

Hi all thanks for the input. Back to work this morning and it now appears to be working fine! No idea why, but happy it's back to normal.

my Photoshop 2020 recent updates eleminated my Hand/Pan - spacebar function as well. No Adobe  tech notes on a resolution. Very frustrating. This is a function Photoshop has had since Aldus.
What the ....!

This is not something that was changed by Adobe.  As noted above, have you tried a different keyboard or resetting your preferences?

One of the Solution that worked:: Hi everyone who doesn't find answer yet for this problem. I had face the same problem just find the solution. I has to do nothing with the Adobe. It is the Windows 10 touch pad probem(not actually a problem). I am using my HP Laptop faced the problem and find the solution. This problem happens not only in Adobe softwares. To check go to your desktop and click space bar thentry move the cursor using touch pad it didn't work there too. I have Synaptics Touch pad. This for Windows 10 users Start>Settings(icon)>Devices>Touchpad>Additional Settings  on Device Setting tab click Setting Button then click PalmCheck-Enhanced(double tab it) keep the slider to OFF position then Apply. Problem Solved. I hope this works for Windows 8 or 7 users too but these options were in different place. MAC users also try rephrasing your question in the Google search as "Cursor not moving by clicking spacebar" something like this and dont mention Adobe or any software specific.... Thanks Happy Creating!!!
