Photoshop: Save Selected Area Only

Request: Save Selected Area Only. I would like to see an option in the Save As and Save for Web dialogs where it will only save the selected area (from the marquee tool or other). I would love to be able to save without having to crop to the area, then "undoing" after the save has completed. Ideally, this box would be unchecked by default to prevent problems with the image preview or someone leaving it unchecked by accident. Sample:

You can already do this, but it is done through slice tool, not the marquee tool.

1. Create a slice using the Slice Tool (under the Crop tool)
2. File>Save for Web & Devices...
3. Select the slice, or slices, you want to save.
4. Click the [Save] button
5. Choose "Selected Slices" from the Slices pop-up
6. Click [Save]

Thanks for the reply Jeff. While that solution does work, it still involves modifying the underlying document. In that case, cropping, saving, and then un-cropping (undo) works equally as well. I was hoping for a bit of a non-destructive method.

Well, technically, it is non-destructive. It only adds meta-information about the slice regions to the document. It's no different than than saving an alpha channel for example (Except that it doesn't add as much to the file size)
