Photoshop: Reediting photos after save to PDF

I only saved my image as a PDF so when I go back to Photoshop I cant edit it. Is there anyway I can still edit all the layers and everything or is it permanently gone?

If you failed to save the layered file at all but instead only saved a pdf (without »As a Copy« or »Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities« checked) you apparently have destroyed the original Layer structure.

Edit:
You could have either saved a layered psd/psb/tif and saved the pdf »As a Copy« or saved the pdf with Photoshop Editing Capabilities to maintain the Layers.
The latter case would conflict with PDF/X standards so keeping the layered file and creating a pdf-copy might be the more prudent approach.

The layers/pdf issue seems to have tripped up quite a few users over time (see links below) so the argument could be made that the saving interface is somewhat confusing but for now one simply has to be careful when saving pdf-copies off of layered files.
