Photoshop: Pen Lasso Tool

I often use de Pen Tool for creating a path that helps me select the area in a layer. After I've created the path I press Ctrl + click the path layer thumbnail and there I have it, a sharp and smooth selection, and then I delete the path. You already know, the Pen Tool is very helpful for this because every point you have the option to make a curve or line etc. and also undo a point... VS the options of the Lasso Tool, I use them a lot but doesn't have that capacity and flexibility. So.. I know it will be great and fun to use a Pen Lasso Tool, a Lasso Tool that you can make points in which you create curves, lines and even undo steps. I think that if it is a new Idea its worth a shot.

I think you'd need to be more clear on how your desire differs from drawing with the freeform pen tool and then hitting CMD+Enter to activate it as a selection.

Yup, I'm not following how this suggestion is different than the Freeform Pen Tool.

First of all a path does not make your file size larger, so no real need to delete path. When I started with PS 3.0 hard drive space was costly so saving a selection as an alpha channel increased the file size; so using the pen tool was a workflow that didn't use up HD space. I prefer to draw with the pen tool at 200%, and adjust it while I am on that place on the image. I will set the feather setting to .5 pixel and get outstanding results. This way your image has the selection built in it, whether it is a jpeg or tiff file. Jpeg files do not support alpha channels.

I would like to suggest that a new lasso tool be added to Photoshop...I always use the pen tool and load the shape (ctrl+click layer thumbnail) as a selection to get the cleanest possible edge...can we skip the middle man and just have a pen style lasso tool? the polygonal lasso tool is close, but it doesn't work for me on curves....

are you using the control handles to create the curves? Or are you just clicking once to create a single point?

I trace the shape of my image with the pen tool to get a crisp edged selection - the point of the suggestion is to say there are three lasso tools that are useless because the pen tool is more accurate and effective as a selection tool than any of the lassos - the free form pen tool is just as useless in this regard because I am limited in accuracy by the mouse input (perhaps with a tablet its a different story).
