Photoshop: More color and custom labels for layers

Real simple request here: Just add a few more colors to pick from when organizing layers.  They are great for figuring out what a layer means to my project (red means outline, blue means fill, violet means shadow, orange is reference, etc.) but I have a couple more classifications that don't quite fit.  Other competitive products have just a couple more and it's nice to sort a little more discerningly than the 8 available (including no color).  I don't think it would cause much trouble or be seen as a negative to anyone, especially if they're added to the bottom of the list (in case people use shortcuts when creating a new layer).  That's all, thank you.

That one sure has been requested often. They still have ignored us, even though they gave User Controls in Preferences  12 colors.<G> I have 24 plus Custom colors for layers in Illustrator.

Thanks.  I use TVPaint pretty regularly, which generally has more limits in the interface, but they still have about a dozen colors for differentiating.  Sorry for the duplicate, I wasn't able to figure out the language to search for this one correctly.

Everyone  knows that finding the right words for searching, and any other criteria, can be a guessing game. I quit after a few wrong guesses, too.  '-}  The moderators can merge this with other requests like it, I have to assume.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Photoshop: No more light colors as layer label options.

Light yellow (and the like) layer options are killing my eyes. See http://field2.com/yellow.png

Why even make light colors an option if they have to be changed, every time?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Photoshop: Customizable labels for layer colors.

Giving layer colors a customizable label would be an interesting feature for me. If you're working in an environment where a PSD gets sent around to multiple people, it would be good to have a way to indicate what layer colors mean what. For example, instead of having "Red, Yellow, Blue, Gray" etc. in the layer properties menu for colors, since the color is pretty obvious already, it would be possible to rename these labels to whatever one desires. For example, one could rename "Red" to "Hover state" or rename "Green" to "Pressed state".

Something like this:

Of course, you could also just make a legend on the document itself, but that's extra work. You could make a smart object for it that you can paste into documents, but the meanings of these colors might change from project-to-project, document-to-document. Having a more permanent and integrated solution would be better in this regard.
