Photoshop: Missing icons and previews in macintosh finder

The bad: I am having is when I save a CS6 .PSD, .TIF, .JPG, .ETC files, I get no icons or previews in finder...

The good: if I rename the file inside a search results window, then a preview & icon is genererated giving me a glimse of what the file contents are.

The bad: the new preview only shows up in the search results window, if I open the enclosing folder, the new preview is gone... where the renaming thing doesn't do anything with the preview or icon...

The sad face: Apple? Adobe? Anyone?

My first copy of PhotoShop was a beta of 1.0 that I got from Nikon way back in the "oh no you can't do that on a Mac" days and have been using Apple products before that... I have never seen such a blant UI issue that has gone on for so long without a fix. Shame, shame, shame...

First, check your Photoshop preferences and make sure you are saving icons.

But there is a known bug in MacOS that causes the Finder to fail to show icons for some folders, sometimes, for some users (it's not easy to reproduce, and Apple hasn't figured out the exact cause yet). Usually it can be cleared by removing OS caches using a utility like Onyx or Cocktail.

I got this reply from the Apple Support Communities forum, and it worked great for me...

Here is what fixed the problem for me:
Go to Photoshop/Preferences/File Handling
Under "File Saving Options/Image Prefiews:"
Select: Always Save
Check ONLY on "Windows Thumbnail". Do NOT check "Icon".

The Adobe people may have unintentionally reversed the logic in their software.

Nope - otherwise it would be broken for everyone.

Also, thumbnails and icons are different things.
Thumbnails are inside the file, icons are resources specific to MacOS.

But that might indicate that the MacOS bug has something to do with their resource/icon handling.

yep - all I can say is that by turning OFF the icon checkbox fixed the problem on my Mac... and until the problem is officially resolved by Apple or whoever chooses to fix the issue, at least I have a work-around that works.

Unchecking 'Icon' seems to have fixed the problem for me, too (PS CS6, 10.8.4). Thanks for the tip!

Neither of the answers worked for me. anybody got a solution for this?
Using Photoshop CC on OS 10.8.5
I use the icons generated on the files as folder icons.
