Photoshop: Inconsistent use of Escape key in dialogs

For years, most dialogs will cancel when hitting escape. I'm noticing more dialogs that this behavior is missing. The latest is the "Target document depth" warning. It's a "Yes" "No" question with the "No" highlighted. Shouldn't Escape execute the opposite?. Escape in the save dialog "cancels", the same for New Document.

I'm seeing cancel as being highlighted blue (on mac). What OS are you on?

MacOS - Yes, "No" is highlighted. That's the function if I hit return. I guess I'm understanding a little better why the modal dialog stops there, but my usual mode is if a dialog pops up, I want escape to "just get rid of it". It might be nice if escape would say "yes". I'm not wanting to hit the "Don't show" as there are times I am concerned with depth. A lot of the time I'm doing graphics for broadcast and I have to work very fast and I use chording on the keyboard a lot. The escape is my fast go-to for getting stuff out of my face. Thanks for listening.
