Photoshop: I use lots of layers so my computer gets very slow, can I use my iPad to somehow divide the work?

No, you can't devide the work. There is Photoshop for iPad, but that is a separate app, not an app that can take over part of the workload while you work in Photoshop on the desktop.

But you can divide your work into smaller portions. Create some layers. At a reasonable point where you've decided it's all good, save that file and make a flattened duplicate as your new image base and move on up. Of course, that's a very old-school way of working in times of much more limited computer resources.

It means you can't edit up and down the chain as a completely non-destructive workflow would allow. You have to be confident that you like what you've done up to that stopping point and won't need to change anything—or get more RAM/scratch disk space, faster computer, the expensive route. But since you're saving the smaller layered file itself each time, you can edit a section, create a new single layer from that to use as the new image base of the next section, and so on. Kind of a PITA, though.  '-}

When my computer gets that slow, I usually just do a lot of calming deep breathing exercises and "plan" my next wicked fast computer purchase. LOL

How "big" is your computer in terms of amount of RAM, space allocated in RAM for Photoshop, disk space and processor speed? Do you have a lot of other programs running as well or a lot of browser windows open? You can check using Task Manager

Thanks Johan.
Thanks Cristen, I specially like the last paragraph...
No new computer, this is a short project, (hopefully) although it has saved me a LOT of my sanity. If anyone is interested in backdrops for a puppet theater, I'm giving them away...
And Dave, thanks but am a grandma, no idea what you're talking about, my son is still laughing because I called a week ago and asked about the pixies...
