Photoshop: How to save JPG?

I battle to save my images in JPG, even changing the export to JPG in preferences, photoshop still keeps this image as a PSD file so I have to scroll, choose JPG, save, after saving I have to say do not save the PSD and then go to the next image. Can anyone help with this issue?

If your image has layers, or is in 16 bits/color, then you cannot save it as JPEG because JPEG does not support layers or 16 bits/color. So if you tell Photoshop to save the image as JPEG after all, then Photoshop will consider this as a JPEG copy (which will be 'flattened' to remove the layers and/or changed to 8 bits/color), not as the original saved as JPEG. And that is why it will tell you that the original has not yet been saved.
