Photoshop: How to remove background efficiently?

Hi Cristen, thanks for your amazing reply. You are right nothing can beat human eye, that I will agree, and thanks for suggesting me the ps software, I will give it a try.

I have a couple of other programs that offer artificial intelligence when initiating a mask. From all my tests, Photoshop stacks up very well when it comes to starting your mask. In fact, for auto-detecting the subject and getting the subject separated from the background before you do anything to refine the edges, it is the clear winner compared to the others I have.

You will still need to learn which tools work best for you when it comes to cleanup. Photoshop has the most options, but not all work as well as I'd like. Having all those options means I can get there, but it also means trying out more than one, learning to use more than one—you get the picture.

The other programs also have some very good tools for manually cleaning up the edges—they just aren't as advanced as PS when it comes to the initial selection.  And if you have confusing backgrounds and/or transparency to deal with, AI can, and will be, confused no matter what program you have. Your options for dealing with that vary program to program, so if you're trying different programs out, I'd recommend paying close attention to what you have available—it can come down to personal preference for the way one program handles it over another.

But if you need professional results and can accept that you're going to be the one to make those results professional, that you're going to need some patience and that there's a learning curve involved, and still want the quickest start on a selection, I can recommend Photoshop over the others which try to be as "automatic." At least currently. I think there's a race on to see just who can do the most training of AI and produce the most workable interface for it.

I'm still waiting for that holiest of all holy grails—a truly smart and quick way to mask even the most difficult of subjects. Alas. . . <g>

You are absolutely right, I really need to have patience to get a job perfectly done. The thing is I really do not have much time to do it by myself, giving the job to others will also costs money, that is why I thought whether a software could do the work or not. Hi eartho, I was talking about some photos which have really bad background. I also have to remove background from some product photos as I do not have time to do product photography. I hope you understand what I am looking for. Please suggest me something.
