Photoshop: hotkey to Lock/Unlock a Layer

It would save a lot of time if Photoshop had a Lock/Unlock Layer hotkey.

Clicking the lock icon in the layers editor can be tedious - especially when editing other people's files.

Thanks!

You may want to look into a Scripting (or maybe even Action) solution for this.
A Script could be assigned a Keyboard Shortcut.

I don't think this would work well cause then it might cause a conflict with not having the right layer selected.. Now if you wanted to make this work, it would be more of a pain selecting the layers tab, moving down or searching for the layer; hopefully finding it and enabling it or disabling it.. I think it's more of a hassle doing the short cut then just simply performing the function manually by clicking.

A Script should be able to check the selected Layers and proceed accordingly.

How is it a hassle? Once you remember the hotkey it would be way faster! :)

Shift click selecting a layer is easy enough, and shift group selecting locked layers (locked items are usually grouped together IME) is also easy enough. Not having the right layer selected should not be a problem for users that would utilize this.

Having to then move to the layers tab and click the lock icon - it is tedious - especially if the file has tens or hundreds of layers - condensing a function that takes a good 1-3 seconds down to one that takes less than a second is a win IMHO, even if it won't be used by majority of users.

I would want it to work like this:

One layer:
> toggle lock/unlock.

Multiple layers:
> if uniform selection(all locked/unlocked), then toggle lock/unlock.
> if selection is mixed (some locked, some unlocked), then unlock.

Have you tried the forward slash key? /

And the layer search options in cs6?

Or Layer>Lock Layers that can be set to a keyboard shortcut?

This was a life safer! Forward slash is exactly what I was looking for!

Use the following shortcuts to lock and unlock layers in Photoshop CC 2014.

• Command + / (Mac) | Control + / (Win) toggles between locking and unlocking all selected layers. (Clicking on the lock icon will also unlock a layer).

• Command + Option +/ (Mac) | Control + Alt +  / (Win) unlocks all layers (except the Background layer).

• In addition, there is a new menu item Layer> Lock Layers.

Specific to locking Shape layers:

• If a shape layer is locked, it now behaves properly and cannot be selected (in previous versions it could).

• When a Shape layer is locked, the Shape Properties in the Properties panel will be disabled.
