Photoshop: Hiding sometimes makes it irretrievable

Multiple times per day when I hide Photoshop (command+h), go to do something in another application, then click the Photoshop icon in my dock, Photoshop won't come back. I can right-click on the icon and select "Show" but it won't come back. I also use hot corners, but when I mouse over to show all application windows, it says "No available windows." I have to quit the application and restart it. I can right-click and select "Quit," and it will work, rather than having to force quit. Then it will be fine for a few hours before it does it again. I am running Mac OS 10.12.4 and recently wiped my computer to reinstall CC applications because they were all lagging. (SO much rainbow wheel.) Since doing this, I've encountered this Photoshop problem.

Apple recently released macOS 10.13.4 which should fix this issue with the current version of Photoshop. Please let us know if you're still having issue.

Thank you for the news, but unfortunately in my case I'm on macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and can't upgrade unless I send the Mac to IT department, etc. I'll test at my home computer, though! :)

This did resolve the issue, but now the problem is back and even more aggressive with InDesign CC 2019.

Hi Ellen, sounds like at this point it's more random. Any other clues to help us track down what steps might trigger this besides hiding Photoshop? Are there any other applications or extension running? are you running any batches, droplets or scripts?

I have so far found only one way to reproduce the issue (or at least a similar one) reliably on
Adobe Photoshop Version: 2017.1.0 20170309.r.207 2017/03/09:23:00:00 CL 1107877  x64Operating System: Mac OS 10.12.4
but it seems fairly peculiar because it involves ESTK. 
 
• With an image open in Photoshop go to ExtendScript Toolkit
• invoke ExtendScript Toolkit > Hide Others 
• run a Photoshop Script in ExtendScript Toolkit that includes an alert 

Subsequently I can close the invisible images and quit Photoshop but the interface elements including document windows will be »gone« and can not be made visible from the Window-dialog either.

Hi Jeffrey. Since the last Photoshop update I am seeing this same thing a couple of times a day. Usually when I am in Lightroom and hit CMD-E to edit in Photoshop. It switches to Photoshop, but the main PS window is missing and I haven't found a way to get it back other than quitting PS and starting over. No consistent steps to reproduce.

Hi Jeffrey,
I am pretty consistently running Outlook, Acrobat, Chrome, InDesign, Illustrator, and FontAgent Pro. This happens when Photoshop isn't doing anything—I am not running any scripts or actions. There are files open, though. The only add-on I have loaded into Photoshop since wiping my computer is some brush presets, but I think this started happening even before that. If I can figure out any patterns, or similarities that I run into when this happens, I will let you know.

We are also experiencing this issue with no actions or scripts running—in greater frequency with the latest update (2017.1.1). We consistently run Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects simultaneously, along with various Mac and Microsoft applications. We also use FontExplorer X Pro. Very frustrating as you can't see what files are open and whether or not need to save them as is before crashing the app.

Same problem here since a few months ago.
iMac 5K Dual display setup
Mac OS 10.12.5
Adobe apps updated
Font Explorer updated 
Documents are visible but the content is greyed out. I can save the files and quit normally but highly irritating when this happens.

Same here. Hiding Photoshop (⌘H), and switching to another app seems to cause the issue, but it is not consistent. The only thing that fixes it, is to Quit Photoshop, and restart. I'm on a multi-monitor setup, so possibly this is part of the issue? I've also changed the Keyboard Shortcuts so "Hide" is consistent with other Mac Aps and uses the ⌘H  combination. Maybe that's a common piece of this puzzle?

Same problem here. Also problems when switching app from PS to Safari. What happens its that only the active window in Safari appears and PS is placed above the non active windows in Safari.

Hi All,
We are aware of issues related to hiding Photoshop on macOS. Another manifestation of this is a scenario where Photoshop becomes visible, but it does not react to clicks and cannot be hidden. I see this on my 10.13 system when I run through the ESTK steps mentioned above. In this case fix is the same as listed in this thread: restart Photoshop.
We are working with Apple on resolving this problem.

Been happening to me too. I am working in Photoshop on my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016) Running Sierra. Occasionally my workspace vanishes. I can't get it back although Photoshop is intact. I have to force quit and hope that my files are recovered when I restart the program. Help?

Since a few days, from time to time all windows in Photoshop are just gone. Only I see the menu bar at the top, but the documents, panels, tools and everything is not showing anywhere.

It happens randomly. I'm working and swithching between apps and suddenly this will happen.

I'm using the latest Photoshop CC 2017 version in an iMac with latest software Sierra 10.12.4 (16E195). It doesn't happen in Illustrator or any other apps.

Should I uninstall and reinstall Photoshop? I'd like to avoid it, is it a known bug or problem or does it have to do with my OSX System rather than Photoshop?

Just had this happen for the first time where the photoshop window I was working in minimized and wouldn't reappear/restore/maximize.   (windows10 laptop) I put the computer into Tablet Mode (lower left square box with pointed bottom - the notifications box).  Once computer was in this mode I clicked to open the Adobe Photoshop App and the the window re-opened.  There was a procedure it finished but then the image I was working on was still in its state where this all began.  Switched back to regular mode and everything's ready to go again.
