Photoshop: Gradient Tool "Clear" Blending Mode

Clear would work the exact same way it does for brushes. It would  clear/erase.  I constantly use to clear to turn my brushes into an eraser with the same texture. But are your saying I minus well use a mask instead when I use my brush too ?

Everyone has different workflows. It doesnt make sense that gradient tool and even stamp tool have every mode but clear.

Sorry, but it makes perfect sense. The gradient tool is not a brush, so how would you clear it? Are you asking to be able to clear a gradient with another gradient? Again, if you want to use a brush to clear a gradient, that's what layer masks are for. With the way gradient work, there's no way of adding an eraser to the actual gradient. 
With cloning, you're merging pixels when you clone, so there's no way to "erase" that, either. What most of us do if we need an editable clone is to create a blank layer and set the stamp tool to current and below.

earth, I think that Corey would like to use a gradient as an eraser, maybe with the transparent to black option? a destructive layer mask, if you want... Clearly not the way we are accustomed to work lately...
