Photoshop: Export Layers to Files script exports files with double extensions (.*JPG.jpg) if layer names have file extensions
Photoshop CS 5 Photomerge function should be completed with a smart Layer Saver option, instead of using Scripts/Export layers to Files.
Layers to Files export now is ill-behaved because it causes double extensions (*.JPG.tif for ex) which prevents series of files from being imported in After Effects for ex. - without painfully tedious files renames in Bridge.
Thanks

PhotoMerge has nothing to do with exporting layers to files.
PhotoMerge and Export Layers to Files are 2 independent scripts.

Some workflows of exporting your layers after using Photomerge lead inevitably to the use of Scripts/ Export layers to files.
This is a suggestion about how to avoid the present need for using Scripting after Photomerge - by including an Export Layers to Files option into the Photomerge - as one option.
Anyway as of now the Scripting function of exporting layers to files is badly flawed because it does this bumb thing -takes the original files extension (present in the layer names) and adds for export as files a new extension (like "Palace.JPG.tif").
Try this: Load 10 x .jpg files in Automate/Photomerge, process them without blending layers, then try to export.
See what happens...
You'll to rename all files after coming out of Export Layers to files.

I am using it now as the only way to avoid double extension.
Who needs JPG in the layer names anyway?!?
There's a whole chain of problems that arises from this detail.
Many people use Photomerge for centering a series of succesive shots, then exporting them as files and then import as sequences into AE. Photomerge is very efficient at comparing layers - so expect more using Photomerge without doing any blending - just re-export layers back as files.
Because the original Script Export Layers to Files that came with CS5 was doing the dumb double file extension - I had to try several scripts and Paul's did the trick.
