Photoshop: CS6 very slow and unresponsive on my system
The program is really unresponsive and sluggish to use, menus don't respond quickly, tools do not switch quickly and scrolling a document is very jerky.
I tried setting the tile size to 128k (since I'm doing mostly interface work), setting the graphics processing to minimum and disabled the layer previewes, changed the allowed RAM to 65% and the program is still unresponsive. Also I updated my drivers to the latest version, nochange in responsiveness.
CS5 was lightning fast in it's response, CS6 isn't for some reason.
Is it possible to downgrade only photoshop only CS5? I used the creative cloud service to update all apps to CS6 and I need them, except for Photoshop which I really like to be fast again.
My System:
Win7 64
i7 2600 @ 3,4GHZ
nVidia 570 GT
16GB Ram
So how can I fix the sluggishnes and if it is impossible, can I downgrade Photoshop alone to CS5?
Thank you!

Is the app sluggish with all files or just a specific type of file?
Is the app pointing to any older plug-ins (from CS5 or earlier) or do you have any 3rd party plug-ins installed?
Finally, do you have a default set of fonts on your system or have you added fonts?
Thanks,
Adam

Could also be corrupt fonts (font preview causing a delay), a bad third party plugin, or something outside of Photoshop.

I have no third Party Plugins installed, in fact, this PC was bought by my Company especially for Photoshop CS6 because it was running slow on my old system as well.
It is a brand new Machine, a HP Elite 7300 Series MT.
The only non-system Fonts on the machine right now are the ones that come with office 2010 and the Adobe Apps.
The Video driver is the latest version, I used the system tray function with the nvidia tool to check for updates, no newer version is available.

This behavior seems to have started after the recent cloud update - I think for Audition (don't quote me).
I'm trying to sleuth out display issues - perhaps a driver. I'm on an HP laptop, 4G ram, huge hard drive, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850.
I've also tried launching PS with the ctrl or shft to reset preferences. Any ideas?

What are the criteria for an efficient document and how does efficiency influence performance, if at all?
Edit: I Just launched a file with 29% Efficiency which slowly climbed to 100%, sadly no change in responsiveness or performance.
Edit 2: It just dropped to 10%. What the heck?
Edit 3: I just tried to write some words in a single text layer, which took around 10 seconds to update. What can you possibly break so much from one version to the next. Frustrating.
Edit 4: Disabled font preview, no change in performance.
Edit 5: OK I narrowed down the problem to files with lots of layers. When I open a single image the speed is there and the response is immediately, when I open a file with more then a few layers the performance drops dramatically.
Changing the Layer previews, tile size or cache levels does not improve the performance in these big files.
In CS4 we worked on interface files with over 2000 Layers and files over 2GB without these problems.

We have the same problem but more confusing I think..
We got two new machines in our studio, both are MAC 3.55GHrtz, Quad core intel Xeon, 6GB RAM, and both are running mountain lion..
We recently installed CS6 on all machines as we have multiple license usage, and it's running smoothly on all oft them except on one of these two machines!!
We tried everything so far, from reducing the cache tile size back to 128K, to purging All history and clipboard, to allowing up to 85% memory to Photoshop,,etc.
and it's so slow still .. I mean not even opening any of the drop down menus easily..
Any Ideas?
please...

http://entity.be/stuff/pscs6_slow_whe...
See the difference when the mouse is hovering over menus how fast the open and close, when no doc is open.
Then with a file open, how they are lagging...horrible to work this way

The designer was working on a huge file, and the photoshop CS6 took a auto-backup from this file and from another one as well..
this made the machine to slow down really bad.. after we found these files and deleted them and restart it was refreshed again.. as normal as can be..
hope it helped,
Cheers,
Tony

I recently read on another thread that TURNING OFF RULERS would help. Sounded crazy - but it worked. Too bad I like to use my rulers.
Called Adobe and they say there are no known issues. Bah.
