Photoshop CS6: Save for Web ignores changed resolution

I'm using Photoshop CS6 on Mac OS 10.6.8. After picture resolution has been changed with Image Size -- for instance, from 300 ppi to 72 ppi -- with or without resampling, the Save for Web command will continue to save JPEGs at the OLD resolution until the picture is closed and reopened.

That's odd, that shouldn't even be possible since SFW gets the resolution data from Photoshop every time it saves.

How are you reading the image resolution after saving?

Have you installed all the Photoshop updates (should be 13.0.4 or 13.1.2)?

Chris, I just updated from 13.0.3 to 13.0.4 and retested, with same result.

I am reading the JPEG resolution both by opening in Preview and by reopening in Photoshop. The readings are identical.

Changes in image resolution are not recognized by Save for Web until the image has been closed and reopened. Save for Web only saves at the resolution of the image when it was first opened.

Thanks for looking at this. It has been extremely annoying. It took me a while to figure out the workaround of closing and reopening. Before that, I thought I was just stuck.

I think this bug has been logged...

Well, that's interesting. I didn't think to change the metadata setting. The behavior I described does in fact apply when the setting is "All." If I set it to "None," Save for Web ignores both the original AND the changed resolution and just sets it to 72 ppi.

If the setting is NONE then the PPI information is stripped from the output document, it isn't ignored.

Thanks, Paul. I get it now. In other words, resolution is just a setting in the metadata, and 72 ppi is the default if it's missing.
