We've released an update to correct this issue such that the behavior of text size/transforms is the same as CS5:

How do I get this update? I'm a Creative Cloud user and the update doesn't show up via Application Manager.

Jeff, your team made things worse. You now broke our script. Somehow Photoshop is still hanging onto the original font size in the text size area input, even after it's resized. Let me know if you want to take a look at the issue and I can show you our script.

If we create a NEW text layer, at the desired size, all is fine. But if we resize one to the desired size, it causes issues.

Okay, I can finally post this:

We have made many fixes to the behavior of transformed text and they are now available in the latest release, Photoshop 14.1, which you can download RIGHT NOW. I will acknowledge, there are still a few lingering issues to resolve, but for most users, these fixes should handle their problems. We felt it was better to get a partial fix out now than a perfect fix in the future. We are still planning additional improvements for a coming release.

If you are still struggling with problems, by all means let us know so we can make sure we address them.

Thanks and enjoy!
David

Howdy folks,

I am happy to announce that a patch for this issue in CS6 is now available for Mac (13.0.6) and Windows (13.0.1.3).

Enjoy!

Howdy Chad,

I can only really speak to #2, although I tried both this morning and neither yield problems. What OS are you running? What sorts of errors are you getting?

Thanks,
David

And what error displays when you select vector shapes?

I randomly get an error when using the shortcut key (U) and or selecting the button for vector shapes

error: Could not complete your request because of a program error.

Odd, I haven't seen that problem from other people.

You might want to reset your preferences and see if the problem goes away.

Could you go to the Photoshop preferences folder, and get the PSErrorLog.txt file and post it here? That should give us some idea where the program errors are coming from.

I just got this error too. I couldn't find the where the error log was to be able to send it to you though.

I was working on a file I've worked on many times before. I went to select the line shape tool but PS 6 wouldn't allow me to select it and showed the error message "Could not complete your request because of a program error". I went to my web browser to research the problem, finding this forum post, and then returned to PS 6. I worked on another couple of layers in the same document before attempting to select the line tool again and it selected with no problems. I'm not sure what type of layer I had selected when I tried the line tool before.

I'm working on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4.

Cheers

The error log is in your preferences folder ( ~/Library/Preferences/Photoshop CS6 Settings/PSErrorLog.txt ). Note that on 10.7 your Library is a hidden folder and you'll have to make it visible to work with it at all.

I'm also receiving this error while trying to use vector shapes: Could not complete your request because of a program error.

It seems I have to close out of Photoshop to get it to start working again. I'm on a PC running windows 7, though before my work macbook pro (OSX 10.5) died on monday, the error happened too.

Text tool problems:

I have two text layers each with the font size of 26pt. When I select each layer individually the font size reads 26pt. When both layers are selected the font size is 13pt...

Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3
Memory: 8 GB

Howdy Chad,

It sounds like you've done a transform on the layers, right? This sounds a little weird all the same. Could you send me the file so I can look at it? I'll follow up with an email.

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

I have the same problem. Two text layers, when one is selected the character palette indicates the size is 36pt. When both layers are selected it shows up as 0.69pt.

Here's the psd: http://cl.ly/2I3z0r340Y0f0T3J461m

Hello,
Same probleme here:
If you create, for example, three text layers and all of them have, let`s say 12px and then you pick one of them and increase the size of it with transform tool (I reapeat, not by adjusting value in the Character box, but by ctrl+T, transform tool) the new size of this layer will be, for instance, 15.22 px.
Now, if you select all three layers and you want to readjust their size from the Character box to be 14px, they don`t resize properly, I mean not all three fonts will have 14px in the end.

In previous versions of Photoshop this text layer problem doesn`t exist :)

Okay, I think I have a handle on this issue. There are actually two different things going on.

First, yes, starting with CS6, we've changed how transformed text is handled. It's now treated just like any other transform is -- that is it is applied AFTER any font size change. Therefore, if you have three runs of text all at 10pt, you transform one by 150% (so it's like it's 15pt, but still based off of 10pt input size, which would be an issue with very large transforms), but THEN you change all three to 16pt, you would wind up with two 16pts, but the one you transformed would be 50% larger or roughly 24pt. Does that make sense?

The second issue with unusual font sizes appearing is a different issue and actually a bug we're trying to track down. There was a scaling bug during the Beta, but it was fixed, although this could be an unexpected consequence. If you have RELIABLE steps that do NOT include a transform, I'd love to hear 'em, in fact.

I hope that helps. With this understanding, does the new design paradigm make sense?

Thanks,
David

It makes sense from this perspective, but if we have, let`s say, 20 text layers with different sizes (in which some have been changed with transform tool) and we want each and every single one to have a real value of 16pt, what do we have to do to make that happen other then changing each one separately? This is frustrating and takes time. Can`t we change them all at once (like in the old versions)?

Thanks,
Julian

I can't think any real life scenario where the new behavior would be useful. What is the logic/idea behind this?

Currently it makes no sense to me and slows down my workflow.

It would kind of solve the problem for me if there was a "reset" function that zeroes out all the transforms without altering the appearance. I think we have something similar in Illustrator.
