Photoshop: CS6 now crashing and freezing after most recent update

The Adobe forums have been broken most of today, something on the server side of things.

And I hope you mean CS6, because Photoshop 6 is pretty old and won't run on modern OS versions.

That many freezes and crashes are not normal. But without a crash report or a sample of the app to see where it's frozen, I don't know what might be wrong.

Have you installed all of the updates for Photoshop?

If you crash on MacOS and don't see an Adobe crash report dialog, you may have accidentally said "never show" on the report dialog. Trashing the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.crashreporter.plist will reset it's preferences.

thanks Chris. I will look see and trash that crash (reporter). I ended up reinstalling (rom the site this time and not my physical disk) and just didn't update to 13.04 . The last stable update for my system cofig. seems to be 13.01 13.02 is also good but it does not seem to be listed any longer. So I will stay there till a new update comes along and try again. I am back to only icon problems and that is ok. BTW wanted to let you know that if I have no adobe apps running I can see all but psd file icons and if I am running an adobe app I can only psd file icons. It may be a clue? ..Well I just tried to upload a screen image and did not see the jpg icon. Here are my specs

sorry, Chris and Jeff, I won't be able to test out PSCS6 today. I am running a very long script on another app that is using a lot of CPU and don't want to sully my PS performance test results. the script should be done late today (involves over 700 CR2 HDR images @18mpx). I am sure to be back on the PS train in the am Tues. Will keep you abreast of all new developments!

Hello Chris and Jeff, Her is what I find after running PSCS6 for a bit

•launching app - 20 seconds as opposed to 5 seconds before update.
•open doc time - about the same
•HDR merge from 3 CR2 images @18 px from bridge -65 seconds. about the same
•save command of a flattened HDR is delayed - the save window opens after a pause and the beach ball spinning 5 seconds. usually this is almost instantaneous.
•save time improved.
•tools - most are about the same now.
•create smart object from five beefy layers much faster
•most of my 3rd party extension icons are again missing after update so it is the update that is doing it. They came back after reinstall and before update. Mostly the ones missing are from dr Brown and onone.
• Icons missing again. (yes custom icons deactivated). So that's it so far.
•shuts down very quickly.

Hi Chris and Jeff, More info. PSCS6 stared to freeze and not respond again. I was attempting a photomerge of a 360/180 pano. It ran till it got to the "compute vignette model" window and the progress bar stopped moving about 1/8th of the way in. I would love to send you a screen shot but when I try to load it it just shows up as a series of code like this;

If you can read it... I can't. This is from using the add image button at the lower right there. The app also took a lot longer to launch after the force quit.

You've got a lot of 3rd party plug-ins and panels installed. I'd probably try getting Photoshop back to a default state to rule out outside factors.

Oh how I hoped that they wer'nt the problem! I had no such problems with these plug-ins before the update - It is why I am reporting it here, where the tread is about the new update. I am partial to my beloved plug-ins. So in saying it is the 3rd party plug-ins means the newest update does not play nice with them, in that before I had no such trouble. Perhaps I should rollback to 13.01 again instead? What are the fixes that 13.04 provides? perhaps I don't even need it. It does indicate we have isolated the problem though and why in addition to the odd behavior the 3rd party panel icons don't show up. I will try first to uninstall the plug-in and reinstall them. Thanks for your help in narrowing the field!

Back to freezing, hanging and otherwise having a hard time finding it's way through to the end of most tasks, PSCS6 with the 13.04 update makes my PS experience a miserable and dreaded experience now. Not only do I not have my beloved plugins but I can barely get anything done now and have to wait and wait wand wait for simple chores to finish. Please let me know what this update is for - Maybe I don't need the evil thing. I am rolling back to 13.01 - the last really stable update for my system that will also let me work with my plugins. Perhaps you can tell me what else to try before I do that?? Perhaps I need to change some settings to adjust for the new update?? pissed off and demoralized and apologetic for that, Uhane

I am having this exact problem. I also have Windows 7, all my drivers are up to date, and I do not own any 3rd party plug ins. I have recently updated CS6 via Adobe Cloud membership, and the "program has stopped working" and "seeking solutions" dialog pops up. I have been using my CS4 more than CS6 due to this issue.

This happens when I open a new document. It's not letting me get very far... The window freezes, and then I get the report. .

Any one figure this one out?
