Photoshop: CS6 crashing on save

Photoshop CS6 has started crashing when the save dialog comes up. This makes it completely unusuable. Windows 8. Worked fine until today. It just freezes and becomes completely unresponsive to the keyboard or mouse. Have tried restarting etc.

Fixed! Updating it didn't fix it. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't fix it the 1st time - however the 2nd time I looked more closely and there was an option on uninstall to remove all data. I did that and apart from losing ALL of my extensive customization it now works.

Thanks for closing the loop. Sounds like a preference issue. Restoring the prefs may have been possible solution.

How do I restore my preferences?

Use the control-alt-shift key combination, or more the preferences folder elsewhere (in cause we need a copy for debugging, or that doesn't solve the problem you can move it back).

This happens to me almost daily. I've submitted numerous crash reports about it.

This is an inconsistant occurrence, I can be working fine almost all day, and then for some reason it just quits out while saving.

Are you crashing in the OS save dialog, or actually while writing the file?
I have lots of crashes in OS code in the save dialog, but not so many while actually writing the file.

While writing the file. When I hit command-s it seems to think for a bit, then just disappears. It doesn't start a progress bar.

Hmm. Is your email for getsatisfaction the same one you use when submitting crash reports? (so I can look them up)

OK - looks like this is a much easier way to restore preferences than uninstall/reinstall:

I disabled background saving, and I haven't been getting crashes when I save.

iMatt, do you by chance use MacKeeper or Clean My Mac or any OS clean-up utilities?
