Photoshop CS6 and earlier: Compatible with MacOS Sierra 10.12?

CS5 Photoshop incompatible with MacOS Sierra? Should have read the warnings before I upgraded. Does this mean I can never use Photoshop again? (the end of the world) or will an Adobe fix occur in the future?

Older versions like CS5 can run on Sierra if you install the legacy Java Runtime from here: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572?locale=en_US

Printing currently does not work on Sierra for some printers: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-and-mac-os-sierra.html A workaround is being investigated.

I installed Sierra on a partition and PhotoshopCS5. CS5 works but crashes on close.  If I open the Photoshop CS5 that's installed on my El Capitan hard drive (From Sierra), it works and closes normally.

Adobe is not in the habit of releasing updates for obsolete program versions.

I'm finding that CS5 works fine (with the Java Runtime fix installed - see this article for making it work in Yosemite http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/how-make-photoshop-cs5-run-in-mac-os-x-yosemite-359695...) same fix works in El Capitan and Sierra

So far the only problem I've had is that it crashes when I try to print. I get the normal print dialogues but as soon as I hit print, it crashes. I can work around it (griping all the while) by saving the document and opening it in preview to print.  

I'm not experiencing the crash on close. I tried opening my El Capitan copy, but it crashes on print as well.

Photoshop 5 will no longer open after I upgraded to Sierra.  Error reads;

To open "Adobe Photoshop CS5" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime

Can't open CS5 on my MacBook Pro, installed the Java SE 6, got the message, "An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred. Photoshop will now exit." This solution always worked before with earlier updates but no longer. Even if I can fix this problem it may be time to move on. Legacy software won't work forever. Even tried installing an earlier version of Java but I get a message that a newer version is already installed so it won't install.

Didn't think of that. I'll give it a try but I'll have to dig around and find the old disks with the key. I have CS4 and a CS5 upgrade disk.

OK, I uninstalled CS5, reinstalled CS3, reinstalled the CS5 update and now everything works on my new MacBook Pro! Thanks!

I'm a designer that has a macbook pro with CS5, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Flash, Fireworks, After Effects and Bridge. As you can see have the creative suite and have a lot of files that were created in these. I want to upgrade to Sierra, I didn't bother to go to Yosemite, or El Capitan. I also have a partition drive for bootcamp. While responses seem to address the Photoshop concern, has there been any issues with the other CS5 applications that I listed? I can't afford for any of them to now work.

Photoshop CS5 will not open on Sierra 10.12.2 even after Java legacy is installed. I get a message that Adobe Photoshop cannot be installed because of a problem:

Termination Reason:    DYLD, [0x1] Library missing

Have you had any luck with it since this time?  What did you end up doing? I just bought a new Sierra iMac and am about to try to get Photoshop and Bridge to work.

I had the same problem, which was solved by completely reinstalling Creative Suite 5 or 6. You can find the legacy download on the Adobe site. There is a catch; the installer will fail to launch from the finder. You need to right click on the installer icon and "show package". From there you will need to drill down into the folders until you find the installer file ("Mac Install" in my case).  Once this file is located launch Terminal. Drag the installer icon into the Terminal window, where the installer will launch and you'll be on your way. Not so difficult. This Terminal workaround seems like an oversight when they were building 10.12. It seems to me that if terminal can launch the installer then the Finder should be able to do so also.

I've now been using Photoshop CS5  for about 30 hours and it seems to work fine on Sierra...except I am occasionally experiencing crash on close. I've not tried printing, but based on a number of stories that could be hit or miss.

I bought a new iMac and it has the Sierra 10.12.2 installed. I tried to use my CS6 and it won't download even with this java update. Makes me mad, but I assumed they would make it obsolete at some point. I just bought cc for photographers.

Can't open CS5 in Sierra OS10.12.  Pop up window says: "To open CS5 you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime" but Java SE 6 is only good for "el Capitan" and earlier OS systems. It doesn't work in "Sierra".

I am so damn annoyed after installing the new High Sierra on my Mac only to discover My CS5 is not compatible with it. I do wish Apple would have been a bit more helpful in forwarding this information rather than bombarding you with upgrading to their latest operating system.....It seems to open okay but crashes when I try to print out anything
I am not interested in upgrading my Photoshop as I bought a licensed copy of CS5, have used it for years and am quite happy with it.

Try to open CS5.1, prompted to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime. Java offered and I download JE-8u161-macosx-x64.dmg. Still nothing works. Help
