Photoshop: Crop tool: Selecting preset ratio should maintain crop box orientation
In the crop tool, I often start with a hand-selected crop box and then want to switch to one of the preset ratios (3:2, 5:7, etc.) Even if my current crop box is landscape, the crop box is changed to portrait, reduced to fit inside the dimensions of my current crop box. I can then use 'X' to rotate the crop box, but since the previous step significantly reduced its size, it's too small and I have to stretch it back out again.
It would be helpful if selecting a preset ratio worked this way:

- If a crop box is not in progress, use the default orientation for the preset ratio (current behavior)
- If a crop box is in progress, the larger number in the ratio should be used along the larger dimension (new behavior)
- Select the crop tool, then drag a 2100x1500 crop box (landscape)
- Right-click and select 2:3 aspect ratio.
- The current behavior changes the crop box to 1000x1500 (portrait)
- The new behavior would change it to 2100x1400 (maintaining landscape)

What you are suggesting will be confusing to me... if I choose 2x3 i expect portrait.

- Select the crop tool.
- Right-click and choose 2:3 *before* dragging to create a crop box.
- Or drag a crop box which is taller than it is wide before choosing 2:3
Note that the tool already rotates the orientation based on how you start dragging a crop box. Once you select 2:3, try this:- Select the crop tool
- Right-click and choose 2:3 ratio
- Drag more right than down
- Note that the crop box automatically rotates to 3:2 ratio
All I want is that if I've dragged a crop box and then select a ratio for it to do the same thing it would if I selected a ratio and then dragged a crop box.0
