Photoshop: Crop tool presets give unexpected results in conjunction with Save for Web

I have preset crop ratios for social media. In PS 2017, I use them then go to save for Web and it's showing the size much larger. Same ratio, but instead of the 640x640 crop I thought I did for Instagram, it's showing 3024x3024.

I would expect that the size before crop was 3024x3024.  Crop has an option to delete or retain the data outside the crop area.  It is on the toolbar with icon showing both the crop and trash symbols.

It was an iphone photo, dimensions of 3024 x 4032. So it took the crop as a ratio. I want it sized 640x640 and to save it for the Web with that pixel size like I used to be able to do before PS17. Doable now?

You can't use just ratio if you're looking to get to an exact pixel dimension. Use "w + h x resolution" and set it to 640 px X 640 px @72 px/in.

Thank you. So basically I've got to redo all my crop presets in PhotoShop. I appreciate your help. The ones I used in the last PS version came over to 2017, I thought they would be functional. Thanks again

It did what it was told but didn't delete the data outside of your crop edges. This has been in PS for some time now. Not new with 2016 I think.

I'm good with it retaining the information outside the crop area. I just wanted it to "save for the web" at the cropped size I cropped to, not a ratio. In previous versions of PhotoShop this wasn't a problem.

It turned out that my crop presets didn't correctly translate into PS 17. It took only the ratios. I had to delete all my presets and reset them to WxH. Now it's working. thanks
