Photoshop: Crop Content Aware Not Working Correctly
In Photoshop CC 2020 and 2021, when I use the crop content aware tool, it no longer works as it did in prior versions. It leaves odd artifacts if I just want to simply extend a plain background using content aware crop. It unlocks my background layer, and before it never did that (CC 2019 and before). I can take the exact same file and open it in CC 2019, perform the same content aware crop and it works great. Leaves no artifacts and does not unlock the background layer. Has anyone figured out how to fix this or is this something Adobe needs to fix?

Do you have Delete Cropped Pixels unchecked?

There's not enough details for me to set up a file and reproduce. Can you post the file you're able to reproduce this issue with? (CC files or Dropbox?)

I keep getting there aren't enough source pixels on the selected layer message when I use content-aware, and there is plenty of source pixels. It started happening after this last update, plus going back & forth between images in PS after it's been open for a while; all open images look like the same image. I have to close PS and restart it to get it to work right, which is a bummer because I lose all the work I've done to them.
