Photoshop CC2015: Unable to save files to preferred destination folder

Photoshop CC2015 - When I try to use "File Save As", I am unable to choose my preferred destination folder. I can choose my external disc, but I can't go further. I have to save to my hard drive and then move the file to the preferred destination folder. This happened with the last so-called upgrade.

Why can you not choose that folder?
What does the OS dialog do or show that won't allow you to save to that location?

The last update to Photoshop was at the end of July with the 2015.0.1 update.

I don't know...I've never had this issue before.

Here are some screen shots that I've added as a jpeg image

I'm trying to save a photo to my passport for Mac. From there I need to be able to choose my Lightroom folder and then a subsequent folder. I've been able to do this for a long time...It's my normal workflow. As I said, I have been fighting this problem since the last upgrade. I have CC2015.0.1
I have to now save it to my picture folder or My Passport for Mac (either one) and then go back and move it to the external drive. Doable, but a real hassle.

I tried to add more Recent Places.
I tried to open the LR Folder just prior to this, hoping it would show up in Recent Places. I can't figure out a way around it.
A have also checked PS Preferences, File Handling. My box for "Save As to Original Folder" is purposely unchecked because I don't want to save my digital art compositions to my Original Resources Folder. I want to save them and various versions to my Project folder which resides on my external drive. I had to do this because my hard drive is filling up with my 40,000+ photos. I've never seen such a weird problem. I should be able to click on My Passport for Mac, then on My LR Folder, and then choose a subsequent folder. I can't get any further than to click on my passport drive. I don't get the option. I have to go back to finder to move the copy the files to the right folder and then delete them off the Tier 1 external save so that I don't end up with two copies of these very large files. Help please!

Why are you just using the recent places and favorites? Why are you not expanding the save window (twirl down arrow near the top) and selecting the location you want?
