Photoshop CC: Not able to double click of the empty area (new Start Screen) to open file

I recently upgraded to Photoshop CC, which is the first update of PS I've used since CS5. I've always loved the convenience of double-clicking on an empty part of the PS interface to bring up the open file dialog. That still works, but there is now a special screen when NO files are open, and double-clicking the empty area on that screen doesn't bring up the open file dialog. I have to click very specifically on the "Open..." button. Not a huge deal, but why the inconsistency?

It was intentionally not implemented in the Start Screen as it wasn't a terribly discoverable feature. There's now a more discoverable option, an (open) button on the new Start Screen.

If you prefer the old way, you can disable the Start Screen altogether from Preferences > General...

Thanks, I'll disable the start screen. I don't know why it wouldn't be implemented on that though. I mean, how hard could it be?
