Photoshop CC - images corrupting when placing in photoshop doc

Everytime i upload or place an image into my photoshop docs the placed file corrupts and goes various different colours - can open the image in Illustrator fine and copy from there but its just a longer route to take - have attached an image of what i mean. It's done this since I've had a new iMac and photoshop installed, so about 2 months now

16GB 2133 MHz DDR4
