Photoshop CC 2018: Placing photos not working

(photo attached) When I try placing a photo in photoshop, a rectangle of random color appears where the photo should be. It looks like an error on a TV. I can transform it but it still looks like this. Has anyone else had this happen/know how to fix it?

I’m not sure why this happens. I’m not sure where the source is your photos are coming from, but sometimes this happens to me when I’m collecting reference images from the web. What I found to work for me is to open the image in Preview. Then export the image from Preview as a tiff. Then it’ll open up just fine for me in Photoshop. I don’t understand the problem yet, but this work around seems to keep me going. I believe there are other options to export your file like jpg, etc. I know this extra step is a pain, but I hope it works for you and keeps you going too.

What type of image is it? Is it a PNG? And what version of Photoshop? There have been problems with PNG, but these should be solved with the latest 19.1.2 update.
