Photoshop CC 2018 19.1.1: Text Glitching When Transformed or Moved

Question

hello!i have been using the latest version of PS, and for whatever reason when I transform a block of text, it changes into strange characters. when i click into it to edit it, the text goes back to normal, but it's a little weird.

Also- it either does it to some of the text I'm transforming or select layers of text. No real reason I can tell as to why.

ETA (02/22): now when I make groups that contain some text, the characters turn into the weird alternates and don't change back.
