- Do you work on a Mac or do you have a Windows system?
- Which Operating System version?
- These "dozen files". Are these image files you were working on inside Photoshop when the computer was shut down?
- a. If you answered yes in question 3, are these image files residing on the hard disk of your computer or did you download them directly from a camera memory card?
- If you answered no in question 3, then what is the nature of these dozen files? Is the Photoshop program not working anymore?
After receiving answers to above questions I sincerely hope some people here can help you getting these files back.b. Have you tried to locate these files on your hard disk or memory card?
c. Do you remember if these files were JPEG, TIFF or RAW files?
I'm not a Photoshop CC 2017 user and thus my help is very limited. I will monitor this thread and if it is a Windows issue I might be able to assist you.

Until now I was the one Windows engineer everyone relied upon. But, in this forum, you are in knowledgeable hands. As a certified Windows engineer, I can tell you even if your computer turned off, your files are intact on the drive and can be found. In either platform, Mac or Windows, files don't leave your hard drive. I am a 4 year educated, Microsoft Windows MCSE, and former VP at the company. MCSE is Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. I left Microsoft a few years ago before starting my own business outside the company. I have been with Photoshop since it was in its incubation as a loaned-out Microsoft test engineer to Adobe in Seattle in the 80's.
Jack has a lot of knowledge with a great number of years in Windows. In Photoshjop CC your files are using Windows which protects files in a NTFS Windows system. On shutdown, the NTFS system in Windows will return your files to their page-frames. If your platform is Mac you will have the same protection from its own system.

I was wondering about that leap, too. But it is possible that she meant it shut down and wouldn't restart, so is there now some way to access the files. If Salenna would come back and describe in more detail what she had open from what source, and does she mean she lost all her work or she thinks the files are gone, or if the computer died and she needs disk recovery software, it might help.
Since Auto-save is enabled by default, I would suspect if she turned her computer back on, they might be retrieved automatically. Which might be why she hasn't returned to say anything more. If they were really gone, I'd be frantically here to get help every 5 minutes. <BG>

then check if the changes are saved automatically, which is possible
If the files are damaged in any way try to do the following
1. Open the corrupt Photoshop file in Fireworks.
2. Use Fireworks to save it as a .psd Photoshop file. (Important: Do Not save it as a Fireworks file or another extension, because Photoshop may not recognize the layers, or you could lose data.)
3. Remember to give your file a different name when saving, so you won't overwrite your original. (A good idea would be to create a backup of your original before trying this procedure.)
4. Open your newly created file in Photoshop.
5. Remember that many effects will not show in Fireworks, but should show up in the Photoshop layers.
if you can restore the OS
Сheck if there's a Shadow Copy of your file (copy from a restore point). Right-click on the file, choose Properties from the list - in the Properties box, choose the Previous Versions tab. Hopefully (in theory...) there'll be a useable previous version to choose from. . If the tab is not there, do a search for instructions for this feature on your operating system.
and another way to repair psd file is to use something like this or another similar software
good luck! I hope I helped you
