Photoshop CC 2017: Unable to open images

Since "updating" to Photoshop CC 2017 like requested in another thread, I cannot open any images whatsoever in Photoshop. When I right-click any image file whether it be jpg, png, gif, or whatever and select "Open With" and browse for Photoshop.exe and I double click it, the image does not open with Photoshop nor does Photoshop gets added to the list of programs that Windows can use to open the image. A bit of Googling around reveals that this means that the program itself is built to not allow opening of files this way. I don't know why Adobe went this route but now editing images in Photoshop is not possible for me. Why would Adobe disallow open with for Photoshop when it is a freaking image editing software! Photoshop is now useless since CC 2017. This feature that always has been there should be restored because now I am completely stalled with all projects including schoolwork

I have the CC2017 & Windows 10. restarted PC so nothing running, just chrome (to see your post). Use Windows Explorer to navigate to a jpg file.
Right click, select "Open With". No Photoshop label.
Put your mouse inside the window that opened.
Select Choose another app
Scroll down to "More Apps"
Scroll down again to "Look for another app on this PC"
Navigate to: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2017", select Photoshop.exe
Click Open

Photoshop will start AND the image file will be opened.

Close out this whole thing and now try it again.
You should see that "Adobe Photoshop CC 2017" is now in the "Open With" selections.

This is a behavior of Windows, it's not an excuse, just how it works.
I hope these steps help you resolve the problem.

There is always Bridge to be able to select multiple images. Please don't hate me for suggesting Bridge.

The question said that they already tried right-clicking and manually selecting the Photoshop executable. It doesn't work.

All ways are tried, doesn't work. I was so excited about photoshop 2017, but if it is not ready to open a file, then it is useless. But it is working properly on my brothers PC having high specifications.Does it means that now photoshop also need a 16gb ram and nvidea titans ?

I have the same problem. Manually adding Photoshop does not work. I navigate the the .exe file but Photoshop is not added to the list, and does not open. All I can do is open Photoshop, navigate to the image I want to edit and open the image. There should be a fix since many people have this problem.

I used to drag the images I wanted onto my desktop screen (I have an iMac) then control R-click and I could open them in Photoshop.  Suddenly this stopped working.  But I found I could go into the Photoshop menu, click File, click Open, enter Desktop and it opened them.

I too have to open Photoshop, click Open and find my way to the image I need to edit. Unfortunately the right click Open With... option does not work.

David, I followed the exact procedure you suggested, and Photoshop did open, but it did not open the image(s) selected. Afterward, when I tried again with Photoshop open, Photoshop still did not appear on the list of apps available to open the JPG and I would have had to go through the whole procedure again, probably to no result. I *was* able to open the JPGs by browsing to them through Photoshop's File menu, but this is *much* less convenient than the right-click/open procedure I've been using until yesterday. Any additional suggestions? Thanks.

i have a mac on sierra , not sure if its the right way but i can open them by open ps 2017 , click open or cmd o , in the screen that comes up, in options change readable to all documents , assuming your photos are in photos select that from the left scroll down menu that has all your options of where to look , you should then get your photos displayed , highlight what you want and click open , it should then open in camera raw , make your adjustments and click open image , i know its long winded and there is bound to be a better way i just can't find one yet but at least i can still work on my photos , i did notice if you try to search by number it keeps going back on itself , as it cant find numbered raw files or at least i cant make it do it , thanks photoshop for making a simple thing difficult , be nice to find out the official way sometime . hope it helps .

I'm having the same problem. Nothing is working, not even running the program and then creating a new file or opening from the menu. What h**l is going on?

No video. I can open Photoshop and navigate to the image I need to open. Can't open Photoshop files any other way.

Only solution that has worked for me is to run it as administrator

Do you still have the previous version of Photoshop? Try to copy the ambtill.dll file from that version and replace the one in Photoshop CC 2017. Worked for me.

Not recommended. You're using a torrent which is malware, breaks signing and opens your computer to all kinds of exploits.

Where do you get he's using a torrent from that. Becuase he used an older version of the AMTLib.dll That's a big accusation for someone to make without evidence.

Maybe your version of Photoshop is not compatible with your computer ;) It was exactly like that  in my case :) So try uninstall newest version and install older one :P

I started Task Manager and Stopped (End Task) all processes that stated Adobe or Photoshop.
Worked!

None of the suggestions are working for me and my copy of Photoshop is from the Adobe website before some AHole named Jeff tries to claim otherwise. The AMTLib fix is probably just a fluke. I tried thomases suggestion this didn't work. Tried running as administrator. Tried every compatibility option. This is only the 5 time well now maybe the 10 time I started photoshop since the new install. It worked fine the first couple times but acted weird the last time I opened it. I was only able to open PSD file through File - Open - and picking the file. Now adobe won't open any file. I can create a file and save it but just cannot open one.

I upgraded to Photoshop 2017 because the 2015 version had gotten slow. Now I too can't open my images.

I had the same problem, here is how I fixed it so the default app is PS CC 2017

#1 Right click file choose "Opens with"  selected PS CC .exe file to open image. This caused the PS CC App to appear in the opens with apps.
#2 Right clicked file >>>>properties >>> General, Then changed "Opens With"  to PS CC

That's it, hope this helps.

Having the same issue also with PS CC 2017 - I unchecked Use Graphics Processor - no go.  Then I opened it as Run as Administrator and it worked.  I re-enabled the Graphics Processor, closed, and opened normally - now it works - not nice!
