Photoshop CC 2017: Selecting tool in the Extra Tools Menu selects the wrong tool

BUG REPORT: When I select a tool in the extra tools menu in PS CC 2017 it gives me the tool above the one I select.  I constantly have to go back and select the tool below the one I actually want to use.

Check the image below - You can see that the Quick Selection Tool is selected (as signified by the small square to the left of the tool's name.  However, the tool I'm given is the Magnetic Lasso Tool (which is the one I want to use).

Hi Mike,

I cannot reproduce this with the current version 19.1.5 on macOS. Sounds like you may be running an older version of Photoshop. What OS are you on?

Thanks for the response. Using CC 2017 (because I use the Device Preview tool constantly) and my machine has macOS Sierra 10.12.6, but I'll be updating to the latest OS today. I also have CC 2018 installed, the bug does not occur on that version.

Thanks for confirming it's not in 2018. Unfortunately, I can tell you definitively that we don't update a prior version with bug fixes (unless it's a security issue, and then it's only the prior version)

Have you tried Skala Preview as a replacement for Device Preview?

I confirm there's no problem in CC 19.1.5.

Did you not see the title or first sentence of the original post?  I have used Skala but it's not as responsive as Device Preview and can be quite buggy. Thanks for clarifying that you don't support past versions. I can tell you definitely that it's a shame, when you remove functionality from the app that makes it less usable, that you stop supporting paying members of your user group. I will refrain from posting 2017 issues in the future.

Regarding me I still use CS6 EXTENDED. I have CC 2018 from 6 months but I found I'm too frustrated about some bugs, and because only one I reported got fixed after 3 months of waiting while others not I launch newest versio only for some research. Not to mention in last 2 months I met 3 other bugs that affect my workflow I even don't consider to report as I simply see reports don't work. When I'll see those ones I reported are sorted out finally I'm going to come with few more I encountered to report.

I wonder though Adobe is going to fix bugs reported by me or they move to CC 2019 when it's released one day. I'm only scared that they fix them not earlier than for CC 2019, but then I can be in the same situation like you when I maybe find they are fixed in fact but something else that was part of CC 2018 I liked is taken out. So I hope they to be fixed before next relese but it's almost 9 months from end of October 2017 some bugs are with us.

I never saw that option - how to open extra tool menu?

You need to click the ellipsis icon on the tool bar and add tools to the "extra tools" slot.

The problem was it didn't work as firstly I had to customize Tool Bar from 'Edit / Toolbar...' menu.

@kukurykus - I put tools that never use into the Extra Toolbar menu and I also find it helpful to remove the keyboard commands from those tools so that I don't mistakenly select them using keyboard shortcuts.  Every second counts, right?!

I'm sorry I can't understand what do you mean by 'I put tools that never use into the Extra Toolbar menu' and 'by Every second counts, right?!'?
