The tools reset everytime, and not only that, as i've mentioned it in a previous post, the Tools windows disappears aaand you must re-enable 'em at Window->Workspace->Essentials/Your customized one

Even if you recover the Workspace, the tools are Reset

Sounds like you have a permissions problem that is preventing preferences from being written on your system.

There is no Photoshop 2015.2 release, 2015.1 is the current Photoshop release.

I have the same/similar issue only on multiple Macs, one running El Capitán and one running Yosemite. It used to be that tools were "sticky" so that if I used the Polygonal Lasso tool last if I hit "L" it would jump to that. Now whenever I open a document I have to hit "L" and then "Shift+L" to get to the Polygonal Lasso tool. Ditto for the Healing Brush tool or really any other tool, those are just the two I use all day every day.

I've tried resetting the tool preferences, but it continues to do it.

And yeah, every time I boot up Photoshop I have to show the Tools Palette because it disappears.

I'm not able to reproduce this either.

I launch Photoshop, select the Polygonal Lasso tool, quit Photoshop, launch Photoshop and the Polygonal Lasso tool is selected. It may be that we're not using the exact steps you are.

Are you double-clicking a file to launch Photoshop? If you launch Photoshop by just launching it from the Dock or applications folder, do the tools show up correctly?

Hi, Jeffrey! Thank for your response. Hopefully we can get this sorted.

I don't even have to quit Photoshop to get it to not be sticky. If I open Photoshop from the dock, then select a recent file from the list in the middle, select the Polygonal Lasso tool, use it, choose any other tool like the move tool, and then close the document without saving but leave Photoshop running. Then when I select another file from the list to open, when that file opens the regular Lasso tool is what shows.

If, however I just use the Polygonal tool and STAY on that tool, close the document, and then open another document it will be sticky. So it kinda works, but since there's 2 tools I use constantly that aren't the defaults at BEST I have to reset one of them every time.

I've also trashed my preferences in ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Photoshop and ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 Settings but the problem persists.

Ok. I think I'm seeing what you describe. Let me dig in more.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Photoshop CC 2015.1 Tools Reset Randomly.

Hello there! I use Photoshop on several Mac machines. One running El Capitán, and one running Yosemite and they both encounter this problem with the new update.

I much prefer using the Healing Brush tool over the Spot Healing Brush tool and the Polygonal Lasso tool over the regular Lasso tool. It used to be that once I selected those tools once it would default to those tools unless I switched them. Now, however, sometimes I'll hit the L key and it will jump to the regular Lasso tool.

The problem seems to arise whenever I start the program from scratch or, if the program is open and the tools isn't currently selected (so if I close a file, switch to the Crop tool and open a new file both tools will reset. If I close a file and I'm on the lasso tool for example, then that tool remains "sticky" when I open a new file).

It's very aggravating. Any idea on how to fix this? I have tried resetting all Tool Preferences and restarting. No dice.

I figured this out and logged a bug for the eng team. It has something to do with the new Start Screen. If I uncheck "Show Start Workspace..." in Preferences>General... and restart Photoshop the problem won't occur after that.

That fixed the problem!!! At least on my Yosemite machine. I'll have to double-check the El Capitán machine tonight, but thank you for figuring this out!
