Photoshop CC 2015: I cannot open app "unexpected end-of-file was encountered”

I cannot open Photoshop CC 2015, which I have had for over a year. Now I get an error message: “Could not initialize Photoshop because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered”

I’m running Win 10. I reinstalled the program and it still will not open. Online advice seems to point to corrupted preferences. I looked for the preferences folder in the PS program files but could not find it. Adobe help is only open during the week. Any other thoughts?

The preferences are located in C:\Users\YOUR-LOGIN-NAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2015\Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 Settings"

The Appdata folder may be hidden so make sure to "Display Hidden Files" in the folder properties.

The problem is likely in the workspace folder so try that first!

Joel, I am not finding any preferences folder in the settings folder, or in workspaces folder. There are several individual psp pref files in the Photoshop CC 2015 settings folder like "mezzotint filter prefs" but no Preferences folder.

Try renaming these files one at a time...

You also can try opening PS while you hold CTRL-ALT-SHIFT keys which tells PS to reset Preferences.

this was the only thing that worked for me. and when i hit  window/My workspace, it also loaded my workspace from before. This might only be because at some point during reinstall, i selected to keep my workspace or preferences...or whatever it was. THANKS!

Joel, when I try to open PS while holding CTRL-ALT-Shift, the only option I set is to not open 3rd party plug-ins and did not help.

Also, there is no Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 Prefs.psp in settings but I did rename Workspace Prefs.psp and... it opened! OMG!

I checked preferences (under edit) in the open program and they are still there. So far so good...

Thank you so much!

Corruption like this usually happens when the either Photoshop crashes for some reason OR the workspace file gets corrupted somehow. So, I carefully arrange my panels the way I like and save the workspace as Joel-Photography-1 and then immediately save it again as Joel-Photography-2. Photoshop can be set to open the new "Startup" workspace or if you do not mark this box in preferences then it opens the last used workspace. If I experience trouble loading PS, I simply go in to the workspace folder, delete the "-1" workspace. This usually is enough. Once Photoshop opens, I immediately load the "-2" workspace and then save it again as "-1" so I am ready again!

I don't even find those 2 files you are pointing out. I am using PS cc 2018 though, so perhaps they've changed the folders?
I have the same problem as this thread begun, how can I fix it? Thanks

I have same problem as you and in following this tread see my workspace file in ps cc 2018 has -0- bytes file size when I click on properties. So, I am going to my laptop with same program to check the file there as it works ok, then perhaps to copy it to my corrupted one. I can always undo it if need be.  I don't know if it will work - but it is worth a try.  I'll post result.

Joel, could you please clarify? I did locate Workspace Prefs.psp file in Adobe Photoshop CS6 that has 0 bytes file size and it's outside of the WoskSpaces folder.  For some reason I have 2 folders - Workspaces and Workspaces (Modified).
Do I still need to rename these folders? Do I need to move Workspace Prefs.psp file inside one of these folders? Which one?
I copied Workspace Prefs.psp file and renamed it - Julianna-prefs.psp. Where do I go from there? I'm not able to open PS still.

Your reply will be greatly appreciated.

Joel,

Please disregard my previous post, I was able to open my PS app.
For some reason Prefs.psp has been outside of the Workspace folder. Moving it in did the trick.

Thank you so much!

With Photoshop closed, press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and relaunch Photoshop the way you normally would.
