Photoshop CC 19.1: PNG Images Opens with Distortion
From time to time, when I open a png image, it will appear as bright, distorted lines.
I have deleted all Photoshop preference files, uninstalled the app, reinstalled it and restarted the computer. Does not prevent it from happening.
When it happens, I can quit Photoshop and reopen it and the png appears correctly. But then it will happen again later that day or the next. Rinse/Repeat.

Very annoying. Please get better quality control Photoshop. CC seems to get progressively worse in terms of bugs.

Please install the update and let us know if you still see this issue.
To update, click Update next to Photoshop CC in the Creative Cloud desktop application.
If you don't see the update right away, click the 3 dots in the upper right and choose Check for App Updates.
Regards
Pete

PS CC 2018 is having huge problems with some PNGs. I use these regularly in a commercial role and it is becoming a problem.
It started this morning when I tried to drop a PNG into a psd and it came out entirely corrupted.
I then opened the PNG on its own and it was corrupted too...
This is disasterous for me and my deadline. I have limited space on my computer but I have spent the last 40 minutes downloading CC 2017.
Dragging and dropping the exact same PNG into the exact same PSD works...
...as does opening up the PNG on its own...
I suffer a lot of the teething problems of Adobe silently but this is currently the final straw.
The obvious comment is just to use CC2017 but that is inconsiderate of the effort I have taken in using a supposedly market-ready piece of software.
Does anyone know of these PNG problems?
Jim

I am having the exact same issue.
I have not only rebooted, but I removed all Photoshop preferences, uninstalled the entire app and reinstalled.
Still happens with png files every now and then. If I quit Photoshop and reopen it then it works, but will randomly happen later that day or the next. Rinse/Repeat.
Very annoying.
Note: This conversation was created from a reply on: Photoshop 19.1: PNG file corruption when opening (URGENT).

It happened to me before opening png screenshots generated from my mac ('applekey' + 'shift' + '3'). Not sure if it's helpful but my PNGs (above) were taken from dropbox although saved locally with Smartsync?
I also realised I didn't post my platform etc...

Thanks for letting us know and for giving sample files to test.
I'm not seeing these same issues with your files on my machine. Would any of you who are seeing this please try disabling your GPU and then see if how your PNGs look after that? Photoshop > Preferences > Performance and then uncheck "Use Graphics Processor."
Thank you,
Hannah

Second issue in a couple days. For some reason, sometimes when I open images it comes up as just a fustercluck of colours. I can close the image and reopen it but it doesn't help. Closing photoshop doesn't help.
I'm using PS CC 2018, fully updated, for Mac.

Can you please go to Help > System Info and then copy and paste the contents of that window here? Also would you mind emailing me a png that won't open properly for you along with a screenshot of how it appears on your machine? I'm creating the case for this but it's easier to fix when we are able to reproduce the behavior here.
Thanks,
Hannah

Please rename this folder:
/Applications/Adobe/Photoshop/CC/2018/Adobe/Photoshop/CC/2018.app/Contents/Required/Plug-ins/Extensions
to......
/Applications/Adobe/Photoshop/CC/2018/Adobe/Photoshop/CC/2018.app/Contents/Required/Plug-ins/~Extensions
Then check if you still see the behavior. The ~ basically says do not load (so we're trying to see if this is caused by your extensions)
Thank you!!!
NOTE: This folder is in the application package on Mac. Only people comfortable with renaming paths should try this.
