Photoshop: Bugs in Epson TWAIN Driver Crashes Photoshop CS5

I've got Photoshop CS5 and an Epson Expression 10000XL. When I add the TWAIN driver from the Photoshop install files to the Plugins folder, Batch Processing fails to work - resulting in Photoshop crashing.

Crashing during batch processing of a TWAIN scanning operation is a known bug in Photoshop, and we are still investigating it.

Where did you get your TWAIN plugin? In CS5 it wasn't included with the installer because it needed some additional work to make it compatible with CS5 and is only available online:

What version of the Epson driver do you have?

Looks like 3.7.0 is the latest across the board.

Your Epson driver is crashing -- you can either update the driver to fix the bug, or remove the Photoshop TWAIN plugin so Photoshop stops calling the buggy driver.

It's Windows 7 32 bit. I initially tried the Photoshop TWAIN driver which caused the problem. The Epson driver has the same effect.

Photoshop has a TWAIN plug-in (not a driver) that uses the scanner driver. They aren't interchangeable - they both necessary to scan inside Photoshop.

OK well Photoshop CS4 seems to work perfectly well with the buggy scanner driver.

That may be true, but there have changes to TWAIN such that old drivers may not be compatible. You haven't answered any of the questions about which TWAIN plug-in version you're using and what driver version you're using. That would help to track down if there is an incompatibility with what you're trying.

I'm using the Photoshop TWAIN plugin from here:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405072...

And the Epson TWAIN driver 3.49a from

And I have an older Epson scanner at home and Photoshop Elements 10... and there is no internal TWAIN scanner support for that either.

I have 2 Canon scanners , W7 and CS5 up to date. I use the 32bit version for scanning and like the TWAIN inteface for its detailed settimgs. The WIA interface in 64 bit seems very difficult to set up . Recently the scanning in 32 bit has been fine but when, later, I try to use the File/Automate/Batch function, CS5 crashes. It is tedious to have to switch to the 64 bt version as that does not support TWAIN. I have used TWAIN for years with all previous versions of PS and the problem has only started recently. Is there a decent scanning function in PS or, preferrably, can Adobe make the TWAIN work without apparently causing this conflict.I am not alone it seems.

Image batch automation bug CS5 12.1 x64. The batch automation feature can sometimes crash, or even sometimes not complete the entire action requested. For example my action involves taking an jpeg image, adding a border, placing a .png logo, and adding some text. While Photoshop performs the action, if one is to close the the action tab for some reason the action is modified, in one instance it did not place the .png file, in another instance did not use the correct font face, other times the PS just crashed and only completed half the images requested for batch. (Using PC, W7pro, i72600K, 16gig Ram). Never had this type of issue with very similiar automation in PS CS2.

I have noticed that I cannot run any batch actions from Bridge or File Automate Batch when in the 32Bit version of Photoshop CS5. It is happening on both of my machines that have CS5 Creative sweet installed on. I am running Windows 7 64Bit SP1. I noticed this after the last Adobe updates were installed. I can run Batch actions fine from 64Bit Photoshop just fine.
I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue after latest Adobe Updates?

Since the arrival of 12.0.4 I have not been able to batch process. From other forums I gather this is due to a problem with scanner drivers. I have an epson. If I disable the Twain plugin things work normally, but of course I can't use my scanner. This must be a major problem with both Adobe and Epson denying any responsibility for this. I can't find anything about this in this forum, but would like to flag up the problem to anyone at Adobe who might be listening. Certainly they are not answering their customer service line in the UK
