Photoshop: Ability to see the end of layer names in a narrow Layer Panel

Hi, we have always long layer names and the most important part is at the END of the name and not the beginning. The naming rules for many files and file paths are very strict, and changes or versions or numbers are always the last part of the name.

So we often either can’t read (and identify) the most important last part of the layer name or we need to waste a lot space on the monitors.

And properly working on a laptop with more than one layer visible is often impossible.

I attached a rough idea, what option Photoshop should get to display names.

Especially in documents with a few hundred layers became just normal this would be a important update.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for contributing to this discussion. This idea has been implemented into Photoshop 20.0, which is available for download today. Please open the Creative Cloud app, download the update and let us know how it goes for you. If you do not see the update immediately, sign in and sign out of the Creative Cloud.

Thank you,
Hannah

Truth. Addendum suggestion, holding alt with mouse hover over layer switches name-display mode.

Maybe even truncating the Layer Name in the middle would be better than just hacking off the end. Keeping the last five to ten characters at the end of the name visible at all times may help. Something like this:

Long discriptive name since Layers Palette is so infographically limited 07
Long discriptive name since Layers Palette is so infographically limited 08
Long discriptive name since Layers Palette is so infographically limited 09

- to this -

Long discriptive name since Layers...limited 07
Long discriptive name since Layers...limited 08
Long discriptive name since Layers...limited 09

Maybe 2 or 3 different display modes... so the user can decide what fits to his needs ;)

Yep, would make sense, options for different work methods but what's best for the end user doesn't seem too big of a concern for Adobe anymore. Maybe by the time CC 2020 is released there won't be a Preferences panel anymore.

Also, I didn't mean to detract from your idea, just throwing a different (and commonly used) option out there.

An additional suggestion to the same "space saving" topic is:
To make it possible to narrow panels much more down.
When the text display can be changed, it can make even more sense.
It would help to work on tight displays (such as laptops) or to keep track of many panels all the time.
