Photoshop: A quick toggle between light checkerboard and dark checkerboard backgrounds.

OK I'm refining my request because I was confusing the first time I posted it.

And PLEASE mind you--this is a 'feature request'.  I already HAVE a workaround, I already CAN do what I want to do.  I'm asking for this because it would simplify a thing I do pretty often and it would be useful.  Why is that asking so much?

I would like to see some way to toggle between a dark checkerboard background and a light one.  Or another background combination, doesn't have to be the dark/light specifically.  I'm not particular how it's done: it could be a tool menu item, or it could be that the background selected is saved in a custom workspace--I could create one workspace called 'dark' and another called 'light'.

Just asking.  Not trying to change anybody's lifestyle.

I agree that it would be nice to at least expose it in the View menu the way rulers and guides are exposed, which would allow for assigning kbsc and making dark/light a toggle. I don't find it really as useful to switch between dark/medium/light as simply dark/light with one keystroke since the greater contrast with the subject is what I'm looking for, but that might be a barrier to Adobe since someone will want medium and dark, someone else medium and light. <g>

My main complaint is there simply aren't enough kbsc possible to give up 2 or more to using actions to set it however we like in order to toggle. If they'd expand kbsc significantly, then it wouldn't be a big deal to set up actions, but as it stands now, if I use Light with a medium grid most of the time, but frequently enough want Dark with a large grid, I have to run the action to get Dark, then run another action to get back to light, which is about as much trouble (minus assigning scarce kbsc to them), as going into Prefs.

Saved in a custom workspace, one of your suggestions, sounds rather like a good idea. We save a lot more than panel positions in our workspaces, so being able to save different Preference settings might not be that much trouble to implement. It would probably have to be an entire set, but how hard would that be for anyone to set up? And how useful if the feature could be applied to more than one Preference.

As glacially slow as fulfilling most of our feature requests are, though, I wouldn't toss the workarounds in anticipation.  '-}

CG,

I hadn't thought of the 'actions' idea--that might be a couple keystrokes quicker than drilling down through Preferences each time.

But the custom workspace would be really nice.  Once set up, you'd have only two key-strokes.  Or only one if your spaces were all in a menu bar like they are in Bridge.  And no reason the Bridge layout couldn't be implemented in PS--would seem like a no brainer to make them the same....
