Photoshop: 3d import confusion (Where are materials?)

I've been trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm following a video on youtube. Photoshop training channel is the author.

In the tutorial he imports a 3d model of a car, "the model he uses is on turbosquid and is free: video link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGACo...

wen he imports it, he has all of the materials at his disposal,,. However when I import the same OBJ file, those materials are not available.

Can someone tell me what is going on. I tried contacting turbosquid and the author. TIA

OBJs use externally linked files for textures. So your OBJ files use an additional file called an .MTL to tell where those textures, all those JPGs go on the model. Maybe those textures are not there for that model or the paths listed in that .MTL are incorrect. These are common issues with OBJ files and many times authors do not include the textures for their models. Hope this helps

Your explanation makes total sense. however in the tutorial the author goes right to the 3d website and downloads the file specifically directing you to the file he uses.

Just frustrating while trying to follow a tutorial
