Photoshop 21.1.1: Can't draw curvy lines with brush tool

I recently updated PS to 2020 (20.1.1) and I have trouble controlling brush tool.  I can't even draw simple curvy lines.  They always start straight no matter how smoothly I try to draw.  I never had this issue before this version.  I usually use wacom tablet.  I tried with two different tablets and mouse.  All give the same issue.  Please anyone, help!!

(See the lines the brush tool draws.)

Unable to replicate on Windows 10 (latest update) using PS CC 2020 (20.1.1) with a mouse or Wacom Intuos 4.
Have you checked to see that you are painting to active layer and that brush settings (Opacity/Fill) are set appropriately?

Thank you Steve for trying out on your end.
I forgot to mention but I'm mac OS 10.13.6.  I'm not sure the platform difference make difference, though.  I cleared all the custom settings, nothing is checked, but even with just the simplest standard brush it automatically draws straight line before turns curvy.  It's so weird and driving me crazy!

Did you try restoring Photoshop's prefs? I am not able to replicate with my trackpad on a MacBook Pro.

Hi Jeffrey, thank you for trying.  I didn't restore prefs.  I'm running PS 2018(19.1.6) on MacBook Pro and the brushes are fine there.  I think I should try updating PS on MB Pro to 2020 and see if the new brushes behave the same weird way but I'm afraid to do it.  I don't want to screw this one up either.  The issue is currently on my desktop Mac Pro (black bullet one).  It has max RAM and 1TB external HD dedicated to PS scratch disk.  But I know that that machine is kinda old now...
Wow, am I the only one having this issue?

Zoë, did you try also resetting the brush tool, by doing a right-click on the tool icon in the Option bar, and selecting "reset"?

Hi PECourtejoie,
Hmmm... You know what?  Your suggestion may be working.  I thought I got rid of all the settings but didn't try to go back to the default setting.

I don't know if this is the same as what you suggested.  I only use the wacom tablet (no mouse) so I "Reset All locked Settings" and "Clear(ed) Brush Controls" from the top right corner of the Brush Setting window instead of "right-click".    Now on the Brush Setting, only "Smoothing" is still checked.  Then I was able to lose those sharp bends.  I realized the Smoothing has amount control and set at 10%.  When I increased to 100% it draws nice smooth lines and circles.  It draws super slow, though.  But now I know how to fix this issue.  I still wonder why that "unchecked" Smoothing function exists.  How useful could it be?

Anyway, thank you so much, PECourtejoie!!!!!  Now I have to figure out how to eliminate the delay in drawing speed.

Thank you, everyone, for trying to help me out!!

Zoë, you are very welcome, I still suggest, in case of further issues, to right-click on the brush tool icon you see on the left side of your option bar, the bar that sits under the menus, and you'll see there an option to reset the tool...

I still have this issue and I already made the reset on all the tools but apparently it's still adding that extra random line on the beginning, this time instead of straight line it is being replaced by a smooth one ... :( macOS Big Sur + Cintiq
