Photoshop 19.0: Slow cropping
LONG time Photoshop user. System is PC with Windows 10 Pro, 5820 running at 4.5GHz, 32 GB of memory, EVGA GTX 970 4GB graphics, everything important on a 1TB SSD, all images on 6TB, 7200 rpm hard drive.
This system worked ABSOLUTELY FINE with the previous version of Photoshop. It wasn't blindingly fast, subsecond, but it worked. I EITHER have 19.0 or 19.0.1 on here. The About Photoshop says 19.0, Creative Cloud says 19.0.1, no updates.
This version is just GENERALLY slower. In particular, there is so much lag when doing a simple crop with the crop tool, it's virtually impossible to crop exactly where I want. Some of the other tools are equally slow, like the Healing Brush, but I can't remember what all is perceptibly worse.
Standard, basic image from the D850, single layer, edited in Lightroom (which is even worst the Photoshop in the current version), sent to Photoshop. Slow.
Last night I got frustrated to the point where I had CC install a previous version, 2015.5.2, did exactly the SAME thing with the SAME image, and NO LAG when cropping. Somehow I MISSED the 2017 version so I have CC installing that at the moment and it should be out there in half hour or so. I'll see if that one runs as poorly as the current version.
As near as I can tell, all the preferences are exactly the same, certainly Performance is the same. I tried some previous answers like unchecking everything in Plug-ins and so on. I even turned OFF the graphics processor, which just made EVERYTHING worse.
Again, worked WELL, new version to 19, and ever since, lots of lag... What do now? I can stay with 2017 indefinitely I suppose - I don't anything important in version 19, but it would be nice to have the current version not suck...
What do now?
