My lighting effects filter not working even though in 8 bit mode

I am using Photoshop CC 19.1.2.  I am trying to use the lighting effects filter and even when the photo is in 8 bit mode, the filter is greyed out.  Working on some Senior Pictures so would like to know if there is a way to get it working

Howdy Jerry,

If your image is RGB and any bit (non-B/W) color depth, the Lighting Effects filter should be valid.  Are you sure your images aren't indexed or CMYK or Lab or some other mode?

Thanks,
David

Howdy Jerry,

Please let us know if this comes back.  It might have been a glitch or a weird driver issue.

Just so you know, however, Lighting Effects should work for any RGB document.

Thanks!
David

It stopped again.  I updated my video driver for my Nvidia Geforce GTA 960 with 2 TB memory.  I quit photoshop and tried reopening.  Not working again.  Gonna try rebooting.  It worked on about 3 photos and then quit working again and is greyed out

It worked on one photo that I had made a smart layer for the effect and it worked  So i reponed it.  The filter was greyed out but when I clicked on the Smart Filter effect for the Light Effects, it popped up like it should.  Frustrating.  I am running windows 10 and the latest creative cloud download of photoshop
