Layer Styler - Stroke round corners not sharp

Yes, It's a bevelled type edge, and I don't like it.

That's standard for when the stroke position is "outside". Has been for as long as I can remember. Set the position to "inside" for sharp edges.
Would love to see a check-box option for hard or soft corners, though.

I believe it was said by devs to be geometrically impossible to do.

The inside position may or may not work depending on the image, you may have to go in and do some 'pixel work'.

Vector shape stroke has corner options which does what you want. Vector shape fill might be also bitmap pattern. Not handy but possible workaround.

Illustrator lets you control all the aspects of a stroke—cap, miter limit, position, dashed lines—and it appears PS, which doesn't, made the design position to help prevent really ugly corners with very large strokes. So Inside is sharp, centered is beveled, and outside is rounded. It does prevent those ugly corners, but if your stroke isn't very wide, you still can't choose your appearance.

It sounds to me like a good time to make a feature request (Idea) for more user control over strokes. I'm always in favor of more user control. Perhaps the original poster can make a case for why the current rules are too limiting.

I'm not sure if you're asking if vector should be incorporated into Photoshop with the ability to trace over bitmap images with a vector stroke?

I suppose if Illustrator can Image Trace, it's not impossible.

I agree that we probably won't see anything soon on this. I was only suggesting that as PS already has code in place that determines whether or not a corner is sharp, beveled, or rounded, they might be able to expose that to users as a choice?  It wouldn't exactly prevent  you from creating ugly corners, but that would be your option. You never know without asking, and at least Adobe can then say sorry, but it really won't work.

A simple solution would be to simply have the stroke follow the shape of the image or shape that you are applying the stroke to. For example, a square with sharp corners would have a stroke with sharp corners. A square with rounded corners would yield a stroke with rounded corners. If the user applies the stroke to a shape that already has rounded corners then allow the "inside," "outside," and "center" option control the corner radius on the stroke. This isn't rocket science Adobe!
